Screen loupe for Canon T3i and 60D?

What screen loupe are people using for Canon T3i and 60D? I need a loupe for my Canon t3i but am not sure which one to get because of the T3i's swivel screen.

The original LCDVF adhesive mounting works well with 60D T3i screen but you can't fully close the screen "face down" anymore. You could mount a rigid and flat high quality screen protector first just to further assure you woun't damage the screen but it's a personal preference.

The swivel screen actually enables you to use the camera on a straight shoulder rig when the need arises.

This loupe does not use adhesive or magnets but has an adaptor that uses the tripod screw. You would need to remove it to use the articulated screen open http://cgi.ebay.com/2-8x-LCD-viewfi...rs_Eyecups&hash=item20b9682780#ht_4087wt_1149

The current model Zacuto Z-finder that uses the gorilla plate should allow you to switch from using the loupe to the swing out screen quickly but Zacuto note that "The gorilla plate covers the battery compartment door on the Canon T2i Camera." & to use the adhesive plate if this is a problem.

As I posted in another thread, I have my doubts as to whether or not this actually works on the cameras listed.

I'm not so sure the LCD on the 7D (which it is pictured on) is in the same position on the body relative to the mounting tripod thread as the 60D and T3i are! These bodies have many differences, although I'd love to be proven wrong.

Thanks for the information Toenis, good to know that I can go with the original if all else fells.

negelbb and M. Gilden thanks for the suggestion, yeah I was kind of waiting until someone commented on M. Gilden thread with actually experience before trying it out myself. Thanks again guys.

I'm using the Hoodman Loupe on my 600D/T3i, I just use an elastic and it stays whether swivelled out or in.

Even better is the Hoodman "Cinema Pro Kit". Hoodcrane, loupe, and 3x eyepiece. It mounts and dismounts in seconds with nothing to "glue" or adhere to anything. With the LCD folded in but facing the operator the loupe can be adjusted to block out extraneous light.

For when the LCD is needed in one of the folded out positions, I use a "slide on" hood like the CineTactics Screen Hoodie or a JJC LCD Hood I got from amazon for a very low price. I also picked up an extra Hoodloupe I can briefly hold over the LCD in any position to focus or set up exposure.

The "Cinema Pro Kit" above can be moved from the 60D or T3i to the T2i or 7D with very slight adjustment needed. Takes me less than 30 seconds.

I just received mine today & can confirm that it does fit my 600D (T3i). The optics are OK but the large eye cup is rather hard rubber & there is no dioptre adjustment. I think that I may cannibalise it with a GGS loupe as that has very nice optics, a dioptre adjustment & is more comfortable. All I need to do is stick the plastic frame of the GGS onto the metal frame of this one & then I can click the loupe on & off. It mounts & dismounts quickly & easily from the tripod screw-hole so it only takes seconds to swap out the loupe mount & swivel round the articulated screen when required http://cgi.ebay.com/GGS-3X-LCD-View...ccessories&hash=item20b811692a#ht_5911wt_1149

Thanks nigelbb, this is just what I been waiting for, confirmation of it fitting. Thanks also for for the comments on its makeup.

In case I want to use one of the typical magnet loupes for just a few day shootings,
is there a safe way to remove the frame and clean the adhesive somehow later?

Anybody have personal experience with that GGS/Hoodeye/perfect product on 60d/t3i lcd screens? It's made for 4/3 screens so I'm wondering if it's gonna cut into the image of a 3/2 screen of the 60d/t3i.

bumping this thread, i'm currently looking for an affordable (under $100) option for a viewfinder/loupe for the T3i.

Anyone knows the the ones that attaches directly to the screen would produce any problems with the LCD flipped out? Would it be dangerous on the hinge or are they light enough to not worry about it?

This model seems like a good option for example: http://www.amazon.com/NEEWER-DSLR-Foldable-Viewfinder-Magnification/dp/B004HD3G6Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324403999&sr=8-1?&tag=din0a-20

thanks for any help or recommendations.

Really, you like that little crane design? My buddy bought one, not only did it weigh a ton, it was crappy build quality, it literally lasted under a month. Maybe a defect, he had it on a 7d. I think the little metal bracket
that screws in the botton 1/4-20 would be the way to go. light weight, cheap, and no need to use adhesive. I just don't think it's a good Idea losing the option to close your lcd all the way.

I have an LCDVF on my T3i. It works great on the swivel screen as long as it's in place on the body. It's too heavy to swivel the screen out, as it rotates down from the weight.

Cheer,
Pete

eiker_ir,

I purchased this on Amazon and it works nicely with my 60d: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RG4MNE/

I did not use the adhesive frame, rather I also purchased the neoprene wrap referenced by Pete: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OU4Q9W/
I do not have any issue with the weight using this on my 60d with the LCD flipped out, I am careful though.

Alternately, you could purchase this version as the frame attaches to the tripod mount instead of the adhesive method: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RG4IIS/

I hope this is helpful.

I have had this version that screws into the tripod thread http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RG4IIS/?tag=5336062087-20 and it has been working great. Only adjustment I had to make was to add a string to the loupe so it dangles around my neck when not in use. I found that when I was not using the camera, walking to the next shot that it was too easy to bump the camera and knock the loupe to the ground. Hence the string. Also you cant mount it if you are using the battery pack.

I bought this cheap loupe and the swi-view neaprene loupe-attacher.

It feels kind of cheap and jury-rigged, but my focusing has improved by an incredible amount!

When I first got my t3i I posted here about how I was blowing the focus on about 80% of my shots using the 50mm 1.8 shooting wide open because I was generally in low-light.

Since then I got much better through practce, trying to shoot in better light, and using the focus zoom.

However, since I started using the loupe I have close to a 100% proper focus record. Even the times I don't nail focus perfectly, it is usually because the subject has moved, and even then I find myself with a more usable shot compared to my early days 2 months ago.

All I can say is this little $45 accessory has improved my results tremendously.

I do wish there was a better way to attach the loupe than the swi-view. It adds just a little too much weight for certain positions of the electronic viewfinder and I find that it allows the loupe to move about a little more than I would like. but overall I prefer it to sticking anything to my viewfinder with adhesive, and there are times when I don't want to attach the loupe.
