Hi everyone,

Just back from the IBC2008, ( very cool by the way :) ), where I found some intresting tripod systems.

Everybody know that Sachtler is making pritty good quality tripods, but the pricing is also very high.
So what if you want a tripod with the same quality but a much cheaper price.... you should check out the "Secced" tripods.

I never heard about it, entill I saw them on the IBC2008, so I did some testing, and I must say there realy good!!

Compared to a Sachtler you pay 1/3 of the price, and the quality is exactly the same.. ( tripod is even better, but those are my words...)

They got 5 different kits, all depending on your camera weight.
You will get a 100mm fluid head, heavy duty tripod, floor spreader, all in one package...

For more info check:

Cheers,

PS: If money doesn't matter, you should go for O'Conner....

Some shooters at the shop I used to work at bought imitation Sachtlers a few years ago at NAB. Needless to say they fell apart in about a year.

Not sure how the Secced will hold up, but buyer be prudent.

Mmh... Could be a life-time quality problem,

At the IBC-show I saw that you can remove every screw on the tripod and the head, just like a real Sachtler, so if you clean it once in a while..... but that doesn't take the use/life-time quality problem back..

I think I'm gonne buy myself a Secced, if it's holding on for a few years that's fine for me.. :P

Sachtler, Bogen, Petrol, Vinten, oConner, Lite Panels, Gizo, Manfrotto, KaTa, Avenger, Anton Bauer andwhatnot - they all belong to the same company, the VITEC Group.

Sachtler gear is made in Costa Rica cause it´s cheaper there (tax free zone).

Secced is a chinese company that copy Sachtler 3pods and heads also cranes and more.
Not sure if they got the same quality. Most of the stuff we buy is out of china anyway.
From Ipod to Iphone and most of the electronic gadgeds.

Do make Costa-ricans better quality than chinese workers?
It´s just a mater of quality controll, price and profit.

I think - in the moment - you can sqeeze more profit out of china made than cost rica made,
even if you sell it cheaper. But who knows?

Regardless of where things are made I find it hard to believe a knock off will still be going as strong as the real deal in 4-5 years. Dont mind being proved wrong though.

Maybe you should try an Aussie brand (miller) :P I intend to next time around.

These knockoffs always leave me with mixed feelings: most companys produce in various parts of the world, where labor is cheap.
So buying Costa Rica or China doesn´t make much difference.
But R&D ain´t cheap and here the knockoff producers could at least try to add sth genuine, even if it´s only a variation of the outer appereance...

Under Siege ripped off Die Hard, but at least they changed locations and gave us the magnificent voice of Steven Seagal!

I have owned a Satchler for 10 years and it has been rock solid from day one. Had one full service on it in that time which cost a couple of hundred, and that is it. been absolutely rock solid.

Sure the Video2 is a heavy tripod but it's used weekly and never let me down.

Owned a Libec and couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

You get what you pay for and I wouldn't fancy this Satchler knock off one bit.
