rumours

the point is not about matching, but more about tools, just like timur mentioned

the ex1 will NOT be enough for a feature, but you'll have to use an additional cam for those specialty shots that it cant deal with cause of its rolling shutter. I wouldnt call it the all around cam, thats all.

Ford/Chevy, Mac/PC wars are a waste of time. :)
The EX camera is a couple steps ahead of the HVX due to a couple years of technology. But it's behind in a couple ways due to in part to Sony being stuck on, and with old format issues.

I still love the HVX and still might buy a second HVX. But I've seen technology creeping towards the beloved HVX. At some point, when we have different needs, we'll move on as well.

So as I've always said RE: technology, when you gotta move on, go for it.
We're still very happy with the HVX!

exactly.

But they hobbled it by putting in what was their best compromise of performacne for price, at the time. No wobbles, no rolling shutter, but at a cost of full raster pixels and reasonable sensitivity.

I still think the HVX is a KILLER tool. love it ot death. it never disappoints.

The EX has approached Sony to a market where it has been losing ground for a long time. It's a serious camera with some really nice features, the image quality quite frankly is excellent. Consider the long GOP, the color space 4:2:0, CMOS, etc...
Anyway, the HVX has some years behind it now and it's a no brainer that some of its features are getting behind the newer stuff. Still by far the best option right now available in the market for the $.
I have one and I'm still 100% happy and satisfied .
If I have to start a project tomorrow (I make feature docs, so usually 1 every 2 years or so) and I was looking for a camera it will the the HVX.
Sony will have to try harder to have me back.

it will be hard to get you back

our lesson today kids is called vignetting

http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=108433

i was actually a little interested, three things turn me off, tapeless only (for long form, i trust tape more), long GOP (need i say more), the rolling shutter

Turn ons: 1/2 inch, 1920 by 1080 (come on panasonic, whats the hold up)

Now that we are all heavily invested in P2, Panny better bring out the big guns... by big guns, I mean a small HVX sized camera with EX1 killing features :)

Ouch! It looks identical to my HVX when I try to use a Cokin P Series Polarizer, I get very similar corner vignetting.

Bummer for those early adopters. I am sure Sony will quickly resolve it, they need to take some low end market share from Panasonic and the HVX.

Best,

Dan

Honestly, im not so concerned about the 1920x1080 chips, im more concerned with the sensitivity. everytime i suit up a HVX200 with an adapter, im shooting around ISO 64/100 and crying when i turn on the cmaera in a normally lit room to find out that my highest IRE value is 35%......

IT will be exciting to get normal exposure with an adapter, without needing 3500 watts of illumination.

hey guys im saving up for a hvx 200 right now and i would like to know if there will be a prices drop in the 2008?

Actually if you read the rest of this thread, you will see that if you are in the U.S., because of the weak dollar, we are anticipating a considerable price increase, not a reduction.

Dan

I agree with your thoughts on the promotion, but I just wonder what will happen when the promotion finishes, and how that will relate to the price of a cam alone

Anybody have any estimates on how long this promotion would last? I'm not too keen on dumping $5299 over the holiday season, I'd rather wait till tax return time.
