Rumor of new lenses for AGAF100

nikon ones arent a problem.. there are ones that exist right now that controls the apperture on G lenses.
canon ef lenses could be a problem now but like what barry said, its ineveitable that electronic controls would be possible in the very near future.

as for autofocus on other lenses.. not gonna happen anytime soon

I may be a newbie to the party, but what exactly is the issue? Is it some lenses only work with communication with the body? Just don't buy those lenses. Get manual ones like M-series Leica, Manual Nikons, cine-glass, etc.

Or is it the body needs to know? I don't know... I'm really used to all manual cine and photo cameras.

The issue is nonexistent if you're using manual lenses. But if you want the camera to control the iris (auto-iris, or using the iris wheel on a DSLR) then they can't communicate back to the lens yet. And I don't know of any adapters (with the possible exception of the 4/3 to m4/3 adapter) that allows autofocus.

Again, yet. I expect that may change soon.

Furthermore, some lenses (like the newest Canon lenses) don't even have any capability to manually set the aperture, they're automatic-control only. While that can be somewhat gotten around by one of those adapters with the screw on it, it'd sure be nicer to do it electronically through the body, the way the lenses were made to work.

Well, for robertrogoz it doesn't seem to be so easy. He wants the automatic controll, so he can also snap pictures with it. Depends on what preferences you have.

but for stills, particularly for action shots. I have to be able to use AF and change ISO, aperture and shutter speed in camera.

Not 100% this will really effect you then because the AF100 is a video camera. AFAIK, it wont even take stills??? But I dount anyone will buy it for still capability at the price point even if it does.

Thats what people in this thread are talking about, lens options for the AF100 - which will take any lens the gh1 can. (edit - bit worried that may soind like Im having a go at you, not my intention at all - just pointing out that this thread is about a video camera)

Not sure what my next move is right now, considering current job list etc. But should this camera offer a p2 avcintra option Ill probably take at least a very serious look, and I'll just continue to use my Zeiss ZF.2's and add a zoom - in video style. This is what I hope they release.

Previous posts clarify mi thoughts a lot but i'm still concerned with crop and .x factor.
G series cameras have Micro 4/3 in 4:3 format and Af100 has a new 16:9 chip; does that affect circle of focus? In other words: does a wide angle built for Gh1 still performs wide on AF100?

thanks

The m4/3 chip standard is built around 4:3, but Panasonic went outside of that with the GH1. They actually made an oversized chip, so that it would retain the same image diagonal regardless of what aspect ratio you chose (4:3, 16:9, or 3:2). So the AF100 will presumably use the same dimensions and have the same wide-angle FOV of the GH1.

But that's "presumably"; we won't know for sure until we see examples of it or get more detailed specs from the manufacturer.

Thank you Barry but this worries me because i fear now that the AF100 chip is nothing but a GH1 tuned chip. I was hoping for a new and video dedicated sensor...

I feel that the first version AF100 (AVCCAM, no P2 and so on) will be a 'first flush edition' and only the pro model -if ther'll be one- with P2 and AVCIntra will be a serious tool for digi-cinema. My thoughts of course...

I for one am happier that it's not a P2 camera. Never missed a single second of the P2 expense and limited capacity now having the option to shoot to abundant and inexpensive reliable media. It's been as reliable as the P2 ever were and at a fraction of the price...

I concur fully.

Some people who parrot the "P2" line, are living in the past. Sure, once upon a time, P2 had its place, but reliability on card media has gone up, and people haven't taken notice as yet. It's like when the Japanese were selling cheapo poor quality cars here in the early 70's, but eventually caught up (and surpassed), but some people got stuck forever in the "rice burner" loop.

Now, granted, reliability is just one metric, but given the exorbitant cost of P2, I find other advantages easy to give up for the affordable price of cards.

Technology marches on. Yeah, SCSI drives were the bomb once upon a time, but that time has passed. Time to wake up, a new day is here. Technology is doing what it's always done: always getting cheaper and better, even if not always at the same time.

Keep the price low and quality high, and you won't go wrong, Panny.

You are kidding yourself if you think that SD/CF is a reliable as P2. Its CHEAPER. Dont muddy the waters with anything else. I have SD cards sitting here that are falling to pieces after a relatively tiny number of inserts. Dont tell anyone that a single card is as reliable as a raided P2 because you are misleading them unfairly. P2 is expensive it is also superior in every regard.

party pooper.

Couldn't Panasonic bring out are more expensive, thoroughly test CF card that could handle similar levels to the P2 cards (ala RED)?

SD/CF, eh? Must be nice living in the past. But some of have woken up and smelled the roses. Hey, looky:

Flames scorch Canon 7D, but flash card survives

Bonus:

Lost at sea, found in flash

I shot 320 hours using 5 16 gig Transcend and 1 16 gig Panasonic. I shot in Extreme heat of the Caribbean, day after day and backed up to a Nexto. I NEVER had a problem or lost so much as a frame and it was 1080p all the way except for a few fast action surf and board sailing sequences.
I totally agree with my old buddy Justyn (honourary Montrealer) P2 cost more don't need 'em. My Class 6 Transcends freakin' rock and I am sure my Class 10's will too.
Oh yeh, shot about 50 hours on the GH1 on Trancends too...
