Rumor: Canon 4k super35 camera

It's a camera/printer without digital memory. Instead it prints out 24 frames per second. Then you cut them up and make a flip book. The new way to experience cinema :)

I pictured that inside my head...

And then I laughed. :)

The part where the now needed 4th AC chases the camera with a bucket in his hand picking up the ejecting frames is hilarious. I think it's dangerous to stand behind the camera when it's shooting 120fps though.

I would not bet against Canon announcing a 4k camera. Remember JVC already has a working prototype of a 4K consumer camera so it would not be unbelievable for Canon to offer a professional model for $15,000. Remember 4K is today's highest standard for digital cinema which means that more and more companies will introduce products to meet the demand.

Latest rumored specs from engaget/wide open camera blog:

1. Canon Super 35 Sized CMOS Sensor. 2K and 4K Resolution with 10 or 12 Bit at 50Mbps.
2. 4K via 4 separate streams.
3. There will be two options Canon EF and PL Mount.
4. This is a Professional Video Camera not a DSLR.
5. Price point around $15K US.

Other rumor is that there are 5 to 10 pre-production units of whatever this thing is in the hands of pros as we speak.

Now how the heck do these four stream systems work? That JVC 4K concept camera just introduced uses something like that, doesn't it?. So if you put in 4 SDHC cards (or what ever) do they set up as a RAID or individual streams to each individual card. What kind of post work flow would something like that entail? Is there a current NLE that can handle that, or do you figure that the cameras/systems will come with a plug-in for transcoding the footage? Does anyone have a link to a white paper, or better yet, to a white paper summary in plain English, that explains a system like this?

Something I learned today, and I'm not making assumptions from this but the announcement will be at Paramount Studios, and the entirely 7d-shot "Like Crazy," a Paramount picture, hits theatres the Friday before the announcement.

Sounds like it's gonna big and heavy. I don't want anything bigger than a 5D.
And it's definitely gonna be too expensive.
When is a camera company gonna get smart and deliver an FS100 type sensor in the much loved DSLR form factor? A super35 NEX mount weather sealed body would be dope.

Everybody wants something different. Theres many of us that hate the form factor of a dslr, many that love it. If they come out with
another camera without xlr inputs and the pro camera features many of us wont even look at it twice

This is exactly what I want ! A professional camcorder at that price range with those features- that's what the Epic S was, or is!

Since when has the dslr form factor been much loved? People made do with it because it did the job cheaply. But the dslr form factor was designed for taking still photos, and is not good for film work; that's why people feel the need to trick them out with so many trinkets. The dslr form factor has few advantages other than for fitting in very tight spaces, or for shooting discretely in public places when you cant afford a permit.

No, give me an ergonomically designed, well balanced, shoulder mounted camera where you can change all the main settings through specific designed buttons.

Totally agree and I will add usable by left handed people too without getting a stiff neck ! ( my left eye is one I use to shoot )

Okay. But what about us 25p'ers living in PAListan? Again we are being let down...?!

But then: They announce that definitely we will have an "IT"-incarnation at a given date? And then everything will change. I mean, hey: Everything? Really? That's not nothing. That's deeply religious and was till now usually more a quality of the company with the fruit.

As an ex-roman-catholic I'd say this reminds me of the what "canonization" is all about..... ;-)

It looks like it  - the easiest would be to remove one of the 25 printed frames to be left with 24fps, or we could just train the monkey that's flipping the book to flip a little slower...

you're fairly close, but completely wrong: what tye're doing is redesigning the direct print button so it also works with videos, printing, as you guessed, 24 pictures per second, to create a full-color, photographic quality flip book

but you need a new canon printer for this to work

which they're presenting on November 3rd

What about a video camera with exchangeable cartridges for colour and b/w?

^ one use only, and you have to pay them to process them for you before you even see your images; we'll call it "film" :)

The definition of "Overly-Long-Gag" from TV Tropes & Idioms:

"Overly-Long-Gag

A gag that goes excessively far and beyond a tolerable length. The concept is that something happens repeatedly, to the point of boredom. Then it keeps going, to the point where it, in theory, actually becomes funny again. Essentially, the sheer length of the gag becomes the gag. This is inconceivably tricky- there has to be the sense that the characters are themselves helpless to end the gag, and as exasperated as the audience.

Comedy writers take note: It's good for a laugh occasionally, but expect diminishing returns for each overly-long-gag you employ after the first. It's sort of like crosses-the-line-twice, only boring instead of offensive."

If you stick at it, it might transcend mundanity and become funny again....
