Red Scarlet Announcement Info

Although one thing is for certain, not only is Scarlet going to absolutely destroy Epic rentals, it will also destroy Alexa rentals. I guess Red figures they will kill the epic if that's what it takes to kill the Alexa, at least they'll still have strong Scarlet rentals whereas Alexa will be finished lol

Each of these cameras has their strengths and weaknesses. There will be markets for each of them. Alexa is still the king of DR.

So where are all the RED haters now? There was a lot of trash talking going on here the last few days. RED backed up their talk! Great job!

Well for multiple days definitely even off the bat if you rent for a weekend rate it could be even cheaper. How will this NOT absolutely gut Epic sales??

I can foresee a lot of Epics suddenly going on sale at rental houses

Epic is still a better camera. Better high frame rate options, usable HDR, & whatever else I'm not thinking of. Red isn't stupid enough to gut their flagship product.

This is a total fiasco....shouldn't RED have anticipated this demand? Both reduser and red are completely useless...no way I give my cc information over these barely working pages...how many people actually placed an order?

I'm NOT saying they're going to "pack it in" or go out of business. I'm just saying: To get my money back into their pocket(s), they're going to have to do something RADICAL. Something EARTH SHATTERING....something like Jim Jannard JUST DID TO THEM!!!!

Not necessarily. Even just some substantial price-cuts would go a long way. For people on the far side of the planet from Red HQ, knowing that you have Canon/Sony/Panasonic service and repair facilities close-by counts for a lot.

But goddamn it's an exciting time to be making motion pictures for a living!

Most concern's people have had about Red and their history of announcements/non-delivery are pretty justified, as are any and all fears of the cult-like following that's developed around these cameras that (until now) didn't exist.

Its true that this will kill Epic sales and rentals! I think its astonishing that a company will destroy their own product more or less (I know, its not quite that straight forward, but still..).
I hated that Jim built up all the hype and then berated people for speculating that this might compare to the Epic. But... it does!!
Epic offered cinema quality plus extra features for 45k. Good, but still niche. Scarlet offers cinema quality for $10k.

Finally, a product worthy of the title 'game changer'. I've not always been a fan of how RED conduct themselves, but if they get production going smoothly very quickly and the quality is as promised, then literally Canon have just released an obsolete product, and shame on them for not expecting it to be honest!

they have ... good job ... but I'm gonna pass

Good for you J Davis! (Honestly) Everyone has their own thing. Good for you and good luck on your future projects. I'm CERTAIN that there are ANY number of cams that are MORE than capable of producing AMAZING images. Cheers!

Their servers were HACKED by DDOS attack. How can you anticipate that

But goddamn it's an exciting time to be making motion pictures for a living!

It's also getting harder to make a living from making pictures since everyone and their brother thinks they can do it. According to the commercial on TV even teenage girls can buy a laptop at Best Buy & become instant film makers.

By the way, the Epic at 35k$ etc...are you telling me that the one or two measly circuitry boards that are missing in the Scarlet supposedly make up the price differential from 10k to 35k? So the 'circuit boards' in the Epic cost $25,000 more than Scarlet?? That's hard to believe, for that price you can buy like 15 Core i7 computers that can power a 30k resolution sensor lol...
