Red Scarlet Announcement Info

"Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."

I wanted so badly to ask on REDuser if the Scarlet will have playback available come shipping day as well as all the pro modules they've talked about come November 4th. But I'm scared to ask ANY questions that could be in ANYway interpreted as negative over there for fear that I'll be banned, shaved, sterilized, and destroyed. Here's to hoping

Only thing needed after all this years is for them to post what it does and what it costs. No fanfare, no glitter. If it is worth it them we just place an order.

Why would you want to be part of a community that your afraid to ask a legitimate question? That doesn't sound fun.

It is going to be interesting to see what they come up with. I'm thinking 4k APS-C sized sensor, new gen but same size and format as the original Red 1 M. Smaller than Epic's 5k, but more than enough to compete with other low end large sensor production cameras, (not DSLR's). Hope they can pleasantly surprise us on price, but if its S35, maybe $7-8k for bare brain seems likely.

That would instantly obsolete the RED One, which is still selling for $25,000. I just don't see that happening. That's a huge price spread. Don't know how they can take that much cost out of it.

Also, the S35 and 4K are all very unlikely. As far as I remember, they have never ever shown a working S35 Scarlet chassis. I think they never had time to develop that because they were busy fixing the ASIC (remember the respin?) and the Big Bug problem that took months to resolve. That's what it didn't surprise me when they got rid of S35 Scarlet and then just planned to de-featured an Epic to make it Epic-S.

So all that is left is 2/3" Scarlet and that has been 3K all along. They can't just swap that out with another 4K 2/3" sensor because one never existed.

Really all they can do with Scarlet is lower the price or put together a nice package.

2/3" Scarlet won't go beyond 3k. There is nothing to gain as lens diffraction will limit resolution to below 3k in most cases anyway. It will finish nicely as a really good HD/2k format.

However there have been multiple hints that could indicate an S35 Scarlet is in the works too. If the brain fell around $7k, a fully rigged Scarlet with the modules to match R1 for form and function would run around $18k. This is the camera that would replace the R1 at near its original price.
