Red Scarlet Announcement Info

May the Universe bless, Jim Jannard!

Sony, Canon, and Panasonic had better go back to the drawing board and get serious.

Cinema film making (with a FULLY CAPABLE cine camera) just hit 10K.

I love me some F3, AF100, FS100, (benefit of the doubt C300).....NOT EVEN CLOSE to getting my money. I kid you not!!! Wake up!!!! Their only hope of getting my 15K for a cine camera is if Jim Jannard drops the ball in manufacturing. Other than that....I just joined the Red Army. (I AM CERTAIN that I am not alone.) Wake up Sony, Canon, and Panasonic!!!!!

They will get better (Sony, Canon, and Panny)....or they will focus on other product lines (which is fine)....but I can't imagine why I'd spend money on any of the others....(unless they drop the ball in manufacturing).... Here's to hoping that they can deliver LIKE CRAZY!!!!!
yes it's seriously game over for all those companies. Red just put the entire industry on lock down... we are at a dawn of a new age of Red Monopoly

Am I the only one in thinking its obvious the scarlet IS the epic, (literally) and all they are doing is slowing it down on purpose (and also because the sensor won't be rated as high)?

Holy cats! Really interested to check out the Scarlet. 10k for this thing is amazing. If they can deliver on the manufacturing and QC this thing may be a tough one to beat. Exciting times!

I can't believe I'm saying this: My next film will be shot ON RED!!!!!!!! HOLY FREAKING COW!!!!!!!!!!

it basically IS everything the epic-S was supposed to be. And now they're saying future FREE firmware upgrade will bring 4k 24fps HDRX? Also saying that the final image will be indistinguishable from an Epic image. I don't know how they're not undercutting their own Epic brand because Scarlet sounds pretty much identical, let's be honest most people can't tell the difference between 5k and 4k

I just keep thinking, with all the excitement over this thing and the relatively low price tag there will be tons of these suckers out there. Rental will have to be very reasonable.

Yes, it's just Epic with slower chips binned from production and reduction of some boards. It's the only way they could have gotten out a "new" camera this fast. Sad that development of the 2/3" fixed Scarlet was basically for nothing.

Not sure how this will affect their future though, because Epic-X/M sales are going to drop off a cliff with this being 1/3 the price.

I'm saying inside of the body it literally is an epic. Same hardware, same software, same every single thing in it.

What tipped me off is the curious announcement that scarlet weighs IDENTICAL weight to the epic, yet supposedly it has 'different boards' and 'circuitry', sounds fishy to me. Your hypothesis might be right

Also, as to the whole "EPIC-X vs. Scarlet-X" -- think of it like this, it's i7 920 vs i7 960; almost indistinguishable in speed and performance except for the very nerdy. Or you can compare to i5 vs i7, whatever works for you! Btw, reason I use CPUs as an example is because that is what this is -- a downclocked version of the boards (probably with a disabled core or two).
