On paper at least the Ursa is very impressive - for $5,000 you get internal 120fps 4k RAW with global shutter!

Interesting! They can control sensor size/resolution just by firmware, it's the same sensor across whole line.New sensor size: 23.04mm x 10.8mm
I'm pretty sure that means they're putting a bigger cut of the sensor into the Raven now. Since all the cameras are made there, i'm pretty sure they can just bake up anything they really want to create pretty quickly.Interesting! They can control sensor size/resolution just by firmware, it's the same sensor across whole line.
As they've already said, I doubt they care much about BMD, and I don't blame them. IMO the Raven is on a different playing field than any BMD. Just my opinion tho. They wanted to compete more with BMD I think. That's thing love or hate RED they keep it interesting.
Yes, only width increased :/ Shame they haven't added resolution od vertical axis, which could be useful for anamorphic shooting. Horizontal on it's own is pretty worthless :/emmm...it's not 16:9 at 4.5k thou, or am i wrong?
I read it as a gimmick that serve a marketing purpose only....
And that sums up Red for you.
Is it just me or is camera news is SO BORING THESE DAYS? They are all the same now.
Among the "next big" things will probably be FF/Vista Vision and Medium Format sensors, 8K - oversampled 6K - RGB 4K, higher pro codec type compression, high capacity internal SSD's, faster auto-focus across all lines and, to please combatenthropy, (switchable) global shutter, better pixel shifting on-sensor stabilization, etc. It's boring because pretty much all of the companies have shown their cards now. It's all out there. What's exciting? The NEXT camera. And right now, there aren't any NEXT big things coming up. Just wait until NAB 2016, it won't be boring anymore.
I think the 4.5K wide framing might be advantageous for interviews.
I just shot a standing interview yesterday where the lady leaned on one leg for a question and then switched her weight to the other leg for the next question, and then back and forth like that the whole interview. If I had extra wide framing then I could re-position the frame accordingly.
