Red Noise?!

gamma hd norm
matrix norm2

The studio shot just looks dreadful. That video should be screaming under that lighting.

Doesn't look like a bad sensor, just adjust white balance, Gamma and Matrix accordingly... see if you can get better color with those adjustments.

I thought for 3200ISO that was pretty clean looking. Also, I DO NOT like default Scene 1 settings at all. I use cine-v, norm2, chroma 0 and detail -5 for both at the moment. Use same master ped

I dont see such a big deal with the studio scene at all. Could easily be adjusted in a grade. eg. drop the blacks a touch and a bit of gamma work. Bit more chroma only because that what you expect from a studio scene such as that one.

How did it look on the waveform?

I also think a different Scene setting may have been a better choice ...even at default.

Red noise in the other scene - black balance combined with maybe weird light sources in the street ( sodiums or something bouncing into the atmos?)

Try these settings:

Detail Level -4
V Detail Level -4
Detail Coring -3
Chroma Level +2
Master Pedestal -2
Gamma HD NORM
Knee LOW
Matrix NORM2
The rest set to standard scene 6 settings

I found them nice if a little flat, but I tweak that in post.

If you need them to look good right out of the camera then play with the Chroma and Pedestal, even the detail up a little.

You can make this camera look very bad or very good, it just takes a while to figure out your settings and then workflow, grading/no grading.

Sit down with some scopes, an engineer and another station camera, you should be able to come up with a match, if that is what you are looking for.

you're pointing the camera at a black sky and pumping gain, no wonder you're seeing banding and noise. That's to be expected imho.

The stuff in studio looks actually pretty good. Maybe a little over exposed as can tell by the news boy's face.

Thank you. I have seen some footage on vimeo that was just fantastic in low light, high iso even with a slowish lens (3.5-5.6)
Not sure if it was cleaned up with Neat etc...

I am looking for some settings that require little post. Just don't have time other than a little Magic Bullet Looks.
I'll give it a try. I'm also a bit suspect of the Tonika 11-16. Not as sharp as I would like and the damn lens rings move opposite of what I'm used to. Ideally I would like a settings for cloudy exteriors, sunny exteriors, night work and then tungsten interview.

Thanks for the input

Haha news boy...funny.

This was scene 1/factory settings under studio lighting... YUCK!
Notice the skin tone on the anchor...the orange glow... I have had the same results with other AVCHD cameras (Sd3, hmc150). I still think it is the codec and something to do with how the codec handles brighter areas. You see the same orange glow on the belly dancer test footage submitted months ago.

I have the Tokina 11-16 and it is very sharp!
What lens adapter are you using?

Using the Novoflex...on another note...it seems like I'm losing a 1/2 to full stop on the wide side.
It doesnt seem to open up all the way as the line mark doesn't line up directly with the big O--------o.
What is your experience with the adapter?

I don't see an orange glow at my end, I see a slightly over exposed face.
