Red Noise?!

Well I have a Tokina 11-16mm Canon mount that I use on my AF100 and 7D and I can tell you, the 7D has great lowlight and I am seeing about the same and a little better with the AF100. I cannot use past ISO2000 on the 7D and even then, almost not even, I tend to stay at or below ISO1600.

For night shooting I NEVER shoot slower than F2, and mostly just use 1.8 and 1.4. The F2.8 was just too noisy at the gain setting required. I also tried other non-Tokina lenses at F2.8 and they too were just as bad (just to compare the actual transmission in the Tokina relatively speaking).

Red noise.

I saw it again on a news item from the U.S this morning. In the news shot, the red sodium street lights were a little more evident. In johns scene you can see a few less of them but they are there.

Sodium vapour lights = red (well not exactly red, more like a reddish brown.... horrible anyway) ambience.

Also John a couple of points

+ levels on Chroma will increase overall noise
- levels on coring will increase overall noise.

These two settings will + to noise.

Yes that is the idea to hide the banding.
Like I said it is all a compromise.
I found the above settings to be balanced to my liking.
I would rather have a little noise than banding. If anyone can eliminate both I would love to see those settings.
