Red Camera (photos)

Looks fantastic. The price point and specs will slaughter the competition. But we still need to see footage.

There is no reason why anyone shouldn't be wetting themselves over this camera but I still don't think anyone should be sold untill we see the images that come out of it. After all, most of us HVX200 fans keep saying that specs aren't everything. Granted it'd be hard NOT to look spectacular with these specs but lets just see what this stuff actually looks like.

Jim has done everything we could have asked for thus far but, as it should be, the footage will be the real test.

I really like the bold, utilitarian design. It looks like a futuristic tool (which is what it is), with form following function. Clearly the product of an entrepreneurial company that wants to shake things up. :kali:

I love that this is modular. The cage is a great design idea. Depending on the project and where you're shooting you could stack on an appropriate cage. Versatility. I used to joke about creating a shell for the HVX or DVX to make it more imposing. I bet we'll see an imposing cage just for those actors who need a bigger camera so they can take the work seriously. :)

What??? This camera is not the color red?? what?? hahaha i kid, i kid... but really now, the whole girlfriend at home and boyfriend in vegas thing sucks!!!

EDIT: And the camera does look super futuristic, can't wait to see footage from it.

this design is the perfect, basic shape that all cameras probably have in an early stage of development. Then they start to dress it and make it look big, clunky and expensive.

Just leave it like this and we will be able to use it like a real handycam. It will be great to get it inside concerts...

TC,

Is there any spec on the recording medium or was a suggestion made about how the 4:4:4 10-bit would be accomplished? The promise of compact design is awesome, just curious about the recording technology imagined behind it.

its so depressing, to read about this dream called RED and then about all those new "traditional" 3ccd 2/3'' whatever....... i think im going to buy me a new macbook just to cheer up, and before i spend my savings from the DVX sell.. and wait another year for the real thing to come out.

Yap, read that. Still curious about how the camera is conceived as a handheld device with on-board recording.

I have reviewed the specifications - myriad bit and framerates - just wondering about how the base camera is imagined to capture in a more typical shoulder / ENG configuration.

I have been following up on RED for months. People get excited and now that its out now ***** about how it looks.

This thing is a revolution. Go RED go, and oh ya, go flames go.

This is the most fun I had since, well, last weekend.

But seriously, it's great to yap and yap like I had US$30K on my underpants right now...

I still think since they are striving to make RED so modular, they should make the body modular as well and provide "skins" for it like we have for cell phones!!

Doesn't everyone?

well, I'm new here so hello! I'm curious to know the kind of ccd chips they may use in this camera( I mean size)
On the other hand What would be impact this new evolving technology will have on the other manufactures, Example the beloved Dvx had undeniable made an impACT on how the low end camera market had evolved over the past 2-3 years. I can only think that Pana, canon ,jvc etc... will be taking notes on the turn of events. And therefore be good for the consumer in the near future assuming that this camera does deliver. They can't afford loosing market share since at the end is all a big competition to aquired the biggest chunk of the users market.

my 2 cents!!
excuse the grammar
