reading about overheating

it made me stop my purchase. What have your experiences been? I usually shoot about 30 mins at a clip. Is that problem with this camera? I was so excited about buying it also.:(

I think that a clip in limited to 12 minutes after which you have to press the shutter button again.

I've asked this question in other forums and from what I've been told;
this overheating issue is more likely to happen when shooting extensively at 60p; it is rarely reported at 24/25/30p.
Even if it does happen, turning off for one or two minutes solves the problem.

I, as well, was skeptical about this at first; but this shouldn't scare you away from buying it.
A friend of mine shot a 3 hours concert with the 7D and it auto-turned-off only once.

Now I'm wondering if the odds of overheating is decreased when shooting in cold environment

It may be a problem, yes. It seems to happen more with 720/60p, less with 1080/24. If you're shooting in Alaska, I doubt it'll be a problem. If you're shooting in Georgia in the summer, this may not be the camera for you.

Well then this is definitely not the camera for you, since it only records a maximum of 12 minutes before stopping.

I will probably shoot 30p like I do with my dvx100a. When you light a room it can get hot and dont want to have a problem.

then I'm sorry to say that you might experience overheat and will have to regularly give the camera some few minutes break; especially if you want to shoot non stop 12 minutes clips back-to-back

If you're shooting in Alaska, I doubt it'll be a problem.

so are you saying that if I plan to shoot during winter where it's -25 C, I won't have to worry ? :)

I posted this before. I was joking.

Since then I've read up a little bit, and now I'm not joking. Seriously. I live in Georgia, and the summer here is abysmal.

And for those of you in Siberia/Canada/Iceland/Alaska...

Your mileage may vary. I've read other users using their 7D continuously (about an hour and a half in 24p) until their battery died all while shooting in a 72 degree room.

There is an auto standby function that will prevent it from overheating. But if you want live view on all the time it will probably overheat. Maybe an external monitor will be better since the internal display is shut off and generates no heat.

Michael this is not a joke!

I was shooting with REDONE through a very hot Australian summer and we had ice packs on the camera too. Also, it had it's own umbrella, 'stolen' from the director who couldn't complain after the camera was shutting down and developed strange streaks across the image.
