Re: Sony A7RII - FIRST video sample!!!

Slog2 BUT 42Mpx so, less lowlight performance than 12Mpx A7s IMHO. Despite that, a really well specced beast!

Saw a UHD Youtube VP9 clip of the camera. Obviously very well shot and looks great. APS-C is supposed to be pixel binning free, but I'm guessing full frame mode will have some moiree.

The stills on my A7s have never made me want more resolution, at full frame. I'm curious what kind of crazy low light beast they could make if they made a 12MP backlit version of this for shooting video.

Also I'm wondering if they have improved IBIS. Every sample video I saw of it from the A7 looked pretty poor for video usage. I skipped out on it for that reason.

Two things come to mind, one concern and one hopeful observation:

THE CONCERN:
- Rolling shutter. In FF mode especially. Sony ads hint that both FF and S35 are binning free:

THE HOPEFUL OBSERVATION:
- The 399 PDAF points cover 45% of the image sensor, all clustered in the center. So in S35 mode does this mean it covers 100% of the cropped area???? If so this would be better than the A6000, 7D Mark II and C100 MKII!!!
- Is S35 45% of the area of FF?

I did some video tests with the IBIS in the a7II recently. It actually seems to work pretty well with non-stabilized third party lenses. And coupled with lenses with OSS it is even better (well, I only tested one OSS lens). Image is not as good as the A7s though.
A7sII with IBIS and continuous AF in video (if it is indeed as good as Sony boast) would certainly be great.

I don't think FF is full sensor readout; actually they only specifically state this for the s35 mode which kinda implies FF mode is NOT.

I am trying to remember the release schedule of the a7r in relation ot the a7s. That should give us an indication as to when the a7s II will be released in relation to this camera announcement.

Nice that we'll be able to shift over all the gak to the new model when it comes out be it the a7rII or the a7sII.

Hear's hoping for a consolidated and sensible menu structure for the new models that makes a nod to the videographers using these cameras.

I expect this not coming earlier then end of 2015/beginning of 2016. There is currently NO COMPETITION for A7S, they will milk as much of it as they can.
