Re: Sony A7RII - FIRST video sample!!!

If this is true and this unit sends an uncompressed signal through the HDMI...this would definitely elevate this camera to the next level. It would definitely make grading this footage a lot better in post. I might even be able to stomach those lovely Sony colors ;)

Sony's specs show its just 8-bit 4:2:2:

I'm sure some unknowns will be revealed as we've yet to see a full review - or the camera in someone's hands outside of press events. I'd just like to see more 4k footage.

Tough for me to trust still cameras and video specs, but it is getting better. Canon said the 5DMKIII had "uncompressed" output as well. Uncompressed mush that is.

Eh, according to all the releases so far, the A7RII HDMI out is 8-bit 4:2:2, so Atomos / Q7+ will still record what comes out and it won't be true 10-bit.

Mitch Gross can/should/must chime in on the debate, naturally.

It's a bit of a word play. HDMI is uncompressed but de facto stripped of some data or it would be Raw. IMO, Sony is self-crippling the product.

Thanks for posting. I see a lot of detail but some strained highlights as well.

Rightfully so. This is a $3K camera...not an Alexa, Dragon, or even the speculative C300II. For a $3K crash cam...its pretty darn good. Makes the 5D3 look like a silly toy. I am by no means a Sony fan either.

It is an attractive little cam to always have in the bag ready to shoot. I remember in 2006, all we really had has an HVX200 and a ton of Redrock gear. Would have killed for an image like this in such a small form factor at this price point.

Anyone know if this was shot Slog? Also, anyone have a definite Blue LED issue workaround for Slog?

Thanks Samuel, I knew I heard that somewhere. I imagine that was you. Thanks for verifying that for me. I have never been a Sony owner...though I have shot the F-55 on set a few times and liked it (minus the ridiculous menu system). Typically my company mostly shoots RED and Cinema EOS. That said....Canon is quickly losing the game and Sony is really starting to show up on our radar more and more. We mostly shoot concerts though so the blue LED thing was a big deal for us. As long as there is a work around, then things are still in play.

Thanks!

If anyone speaks Korean here, there's a Sony presser (from Seoul, I presume) posted yesterday on YouTube.

That is it.

BTW, with some reviews beginning to roll out, I suspect that August, 1, is when the NDA's expire and when we'll see the usual suspects with clips all over the net.
