Re: 1DX Mark II - First Impressions?

Just listened to it. I interpret what he said (at around 8:40) that CFast allows larger files to be recorded but the limit is still 29 mins.

I just listened to it again, I guess I was wrong, I heard him say you can record 4K 29:59 and not be worried about clip duration you would be limited by the cfast card or something like that. My mistake, I apologize. I said I could be wrong . :)

Not a problem. Glad we were able to clear it up. It rules out the camera for me though as I need longer recording times for what I do.

I see this camera more as just a good sign that the 5DmkIV will have 4K at up to 30p.
Quite probably. But it's also a sign that the 5D4 probably won't have a log mode.

In any case, this is a camera for photogs, maybe they're saving the video-centric features for another body. Let's see...

Also: as a specialty camera for gimbal work with AF, it may find a market.

Indeed, I estimate the the C100 mkIII to be released this year.

You won't get Canon Log in a DSLR not branded 'C' from Canon. At this point if feels unlikely that that we'll see another C DSLR soon.

If the same system will come to 5DIV I'm sold. Whatever else will not be there- doesn't matter ;) Guys from Magic Lantern will take care of this ;)
I think the days of ML are behind us. Canon seems to be using different software now and the ML team seems to have moved on for the most part.

I agree. But I'm hoping they could have one last hurrah with the 80D that's supposedly coming. Would be nice to have ML on a newer DPAF camera.

That's what I call an optimist.

IMO, chances are that C500 MKII will come out for around $25,000 and C300 MKII will drop to ~ $13,000. No C100 MKIII (or C200, to keep the existing C100 MKII owners from storming the Bastille) until 2017.

You can usually add a year to whenever Canon should have released a camera.

Well I guess I will be one of the rare ones haha, I love the new camera but im also a stills person first then motion. I shoot action sports so this camera with its upgrade in FPS is great but I also am getting more and more into wildlife work and underwater work with my 5D, I really think this new 1DX and having fast AF and 60p 4K underwater will be a great step up. Though I will wait to buy I hope to see an upgraded model of this camera like we did the 1DX for the 1DC. A 1DC Mark II with the better 10 bit codec and 180fps in HD along with Zebras and Peaking as well as other things would be a great camera. Though thats just my thoughts. We would have a great line up then 1dx Mark II for people who shoot both and need a small form factor, a 1DC Mark II for those who need better but still small and very durable and then the C300 mark II which is everything for cinema production.

HA -- that's exactly what I'm thinking. Come'on Canon -- give us a snazzy 1DC2.

Though it might be crazy to think we may see 4K 60p on the 5D Mark IV, just a more compressed version mabye? I think we will see 30p for sure.

What I Interpret is the only recording time limit is the size of the memory card
which based on my own 1DC will be 31min for a 128GB card 4K@24fps
