Raptors stuff.

-Anhar. Thanks. I know that your itchin for 3D but yeah school comes first.
I've been there.
I know we'll see you again, with even more punch. Nice to know your still around. :)

-Sini.

The table lamps: I know. They are oddly enough a bugger to get looking right. A real pain.

The fire: Probably all I can do right now with my current knowlege.

The shadows on the left side: Yep, that bugs me too. It's another fight with GI. Adding lights where it fails and forever adjusting things.

But I remind myself, a photographer does the same things. Lighting. The real world never looks like we want it to, does it? :)

Anyways, thanks for the replys, I'm off to watch more Pixar. (Animation learning ofcourse.) :)

Thanks tommy. I'm looking at fixing those things sini mentioned and BTW VrayForC4D has been out for a few months now. And I'm looking at finding a way to cut the render time down (Vray?) so I can do some animation using that room as a backdrop.

(I know every post here seems to have Raptor on it. That's because I'm homeless but DVX lets me crash out here during the day. Until they get home. Then I gotta go. :) )

(Hey Tommy, I'm still laughing at the ' 03 porn' quote. lol)

Yeah, the lighting isn't quite right in the areas that Luis pointed out, but it's just tweaking stuff for the most part.

I've kind of switched from Lightwave to C4D myself a little while ago. Lightwave is a great program, but it leaves a lot to be desired... that and the fact that I'd get a VPU error every so often... something about the ATI driver crashing or something... but it only happened with Lightwave. But C4D has better tools and a better interface anyway. One of these days I'd like to pick up modo. :)

And I just seached Google for the porn quote, but I can't find it! lol

Raptor, with vray you can use light cache with photon mapping so that you can do "fly through" animations, by doing one "big" calculation and since the objects are static, the solution is valid across all the animation frames, hence you can do full GI + HDRI at in mere seconds once the initial calc is done, lots of tutorial out there showing you how to do it, even one that shows how you can use this method + some parial rendeing + composting that allows you to do the same for animated objects (a bit of a hack, but worth it in terms of render times)

Anhar

-Anhar.

I've heard about that in theory. With C4D you can cache the GI and render the animated object...so that it calcs only the new GI based on the objects current position? But it's not perfected and there seems to be a 'flicker' effect.
But that's with the C4D AdvancedRender GI, not Vray. So, for sure, I'll check that out.

Another thing with Vray though, and Maxwell, is I have to convert all of the C4D materials to thier format. Another tedious process I'd rather not do. But have to.
Vray sais it's easy but has yet to document it. So maybe I'll work on other aspects of the animation and keep checking back in hopes it gets solved by the time I have the other stuff figured out.

//I'll check out that vray cache method though.

-Thanks.

Been awhile since I updated this thread.

Here's a model I did for Mark Johnsons Timefest Entry '02' recently if anyone missed it (Shame if you did :)).

He gave me a mesh of the nozzel and a sketchup of how he envisioned the look.

From there I started assembling the bits and pieces while getting feedback as I went along as to what was working and what wasn't.

One of the earlier versions. The signal light and deck lights were changed in the final version.

Actor composited in. Either Tim, Mark or Nate did that, I'm still not sure.

Some grabs from the final video.

very very cool rapotr. Its goot to see "raptors stuff" thread back on the top! Did yo make the moon too? Those were some detailed drawings I think you did a great job on it!

The planet is Juipter. I just googled a Jupiter texture and applied it to a sphere with some lighting.

The ship drawings were done by Mark Johnson which was a major help.

Oh man loving the detail, any wireframes? sorry had to ask.
Another excellent model!

Anything in particular? You won't see a lot from the wires. It's all as you would expect. Just simple shapes. The hull was done with a displacement texture so the wires will just show a lo res cubic model.

Simon: Surprised to see you around this neck of the woods. Good luck in Twilight Fest.

Yeah, it has to do with the way I browse DVXuser :D I always click the "New posts" button at the top of the page and go through all the threads. If one sounds interesting I have a look :) I normally don't go through the subforums. I just read EVERYTHING :D

Yeah same here. I have a bit of interest in everything.

Anhar, here a quick wire. The hull mesh looks distorted. It's a bug in C4D when rendering wires. It's actually a basic cubic mesh without the bumping.

Excelent job Raptor, working with C4D makes a perrty big part of my income, but most of the time only industrial machinery - some cathedrals latley.

I remember when I started with 3D (on a Alpha Computer called "Raptor" hehe) about 15 years ago, the first thing I made was a space ship.

Frank

Postmaster: hehe. I knew you were into 3D but didn't know you used C4D sometimes. Whenever I see your name, I automatically think of a spitfire canopy and the help you gave me on that.
Funny story though, hehe.

Awesome work on the ship raptor. Very cool to see it more in detail here and to learn a bit more about it after seeing it in 02. I'm just getting into C4D and the 3D world myself have much respect for your work. Very impressive.

Hey Jeff. C4D is pretty cool and gets the job done fairly quick without a lot of bs, so I like it.

Anhar, hehe, yeah, I think I left the 'hyper nurbs' on, which is a mesh smoother in max. In reality they aren't that detailed modeling wise.

Triple: Wus up, hehe? The DVD is in the mail.

Well, a few more projects to work on yet.
Cheers.
