Raptors stuff.

A couple models destined for the next interior shot.
Still working on other bigger, better, faster models but hey it's Friday.
Anyways, any crits or questions just hollar.

A couple more models and a shot. Why? Dunno, it's Friday again.

The wall clock I did earlier this week for the next interior.

The remote was done a couple weeks ago and is enlarged a bit (fuzziness).
The text was done in photoshop first then applied to the material.

The wine glass shot was part of a 30-sec ad clip inspired by Adfest to see what I could come up with in the alotted time, although I wasn't planning on entering. Kind of playing along as it were.
While rendering , a few technical things including a documented DOF glitch caused me some issues and helped to thwart my attempt. I'll come back to it though because I kind of like it. The leaf texture was scanned in and an alpha channel made up.

Actualy Anhar it's been your advice that has been making me improve.
It was all winged before I learned not to do that. That said, there are times, like for relaxing, like last sunday where I say, screw it, free style something :). That's fun.

The clock I had width and height info plus a frontal shot reference to go by.
The remote is mine which I scanned in for reference then measured for scaling and redid the artworkwork. The wine glass shot/vid was a wing job, considering there is not much there.

Thanks Anhar. I always appreciate your comments.

Well I guess I'll make my weekly post since there's not alot happening around here (?). Been off the comp for 6 days so...I'll post the interior when it's done. No more posted models.

So, for those who remember Draco, my first attempt at everything, here's a few out-takes. Don't look for any pro work here :) This was plain old DVXuser fun.
Mikey still breaks me up everytime. That's me holding the tree up.

I wish people would post more.

You guys are too much fun. Here's some stuff I did this week(2 days). The Green couch is comical and will not make the next scene. More for a cartoon type deal.
The wooden couch is not finished, maybe, depends.
The Fireplace inclusive I did today in about 2 hours.

All but the green couch is in the final shot.

No photo's were used.

//Edit: The fireplace has since been updated. The material is a stock C4D material and does use a couple .jpgs.

I like the couch Wood, looks very good, smooth clean modelling.

Whats the project your doing again? or is it just unrelated work?

Yea I wish I ccould do more 3d, but at the moment other stuff is taking my time, so until I can spare some time I can't get back into 3d for a while.

For something to do I'm doing a bunch of models and putting them in a room.
I'm trying for a theme which is an old ladys room, (The furniture is a challenge). I think the next one may be a 60's hippie room :).
That and the ultimate Gamers room.

I'm not working on any vid projects ( or anything really) right now so until something comes up this is something to do. And I got to thinking maybe when I have enough models built up I could start doing some animation type stuff with characters. I'm trying to model a face and have to admit it's a tedious/frustrating process because it's my first one. Not something I'm enjoying at the moment. I'm also trying to avoid using photos as textures and stay true to 3D, again, for change. Which is pretty much the opposite of what I would do with video. Or should I say tried to do.

It's going to suck without your regular postings Anhar.
Did you take that University offer? I remember you had a game studio
offer vs Uni and couldn't decide.

Well, thanks for stopping in. Tis a bit quiet around here. :)
-Cheers.

Yea, starts 20th September for my Masters in ICS (information Systems)MSc, I've figured right now a masters is more important to me than a job :)

Anyways I'm enjoying your work, keep it comming! face modelling is mega hard, I think I might even give "Zbrush" or mudbox a go for face modelling...

Raptor, that's some great work. The wood couch is excellent. Could you post a wireframe of it? I'd like to see how you did the bottom frame area. The leather could maybe use a bit of a micro-bump texture to break up the spec some.

I feel your pain for no posts. I'd like to see more too. I have a character I've been working on for my employer but it's not quite ready for the critical eye of my fellow 3D'rs yet. Maybe this week sometime. And i agree about head modeling. As you saw from my thread it's tough for me. I put that one on the shelf for a bit

I'll try adding some noise to the leather in the bump. GI wasn't used here but will be in the final render so maybe that will help too.

Here's the lower front piece I think you wanted to see.
The poly count is very high so let me explain.

I've used a few different methods to get that spiral shape onto a surface.
For this part I used a high poly box and added a Spline Deformer. That allows me to use a spline shape to pull on the vertices of the box giving the protrusion. I usually follow up with Polygon Reduction which optimizes the mesh down to around 1/10 of the orig. poly count.

Another method, like I did with the legs of the coffee table is to draw polygons. That takes quite a bit longer although the poly count is much less. But then a smoother is applied and up goes the count again.

The other way, which I like the best, like I did for the top of the wall clock, is to model some basic shapes and lie them out on the floor, overlapping to make a pattern. Then I use an infinite light with a range equal to the height of the patten objects and render a top down view. Blur the pic a bit in a paint program to soften the edges. Then bring it into the displacement channel of a hi-poly plain to get good detail. I sometimes set the displacement to make it permanent then optimize the poly count.

Most of the time the reduction works really well, but the odd time it wont reduce too well without distorting the image.

//edit: Updated the fireplace.

It's been a while. My PC had a major hardware failure so I was off the grid for 6 weeks. It's hard getting back into a groove.

Here's a work in progress. A departure from other stuff I've been doing.
I played around with the Cell Renderer and the model was actually wierd to do. The image ofcourse is based on Sylvester. I still need to tweek him up a bit, add some more hair & better eyes and such. Anyhoo...

Hey Anhar. No he's not rigged yet. Im still trying to figure out what to do with the eyes as they are animated alot in the toons I've seen. I've since remodelled it too to get a lower poly count from the neck down.

So I'm not rigging untill I figure that out as well as the eyebrows.
Then I'll test rig it, revamp and get on with animating.

Ya know, for something as simple as this it's actually a little complicated.
There is little to nothing on the web about it.

"The room" which I got so behind on. I may still add another light for some highlights and...sigh...does it ever end?

I'll update on the cat later. He's not Sylvester anymore though.

niiice! you got some ambience going! I think your scaling is getting very accurate indeed!

Keep up the good work!

Makes me wanna do some 3d, sadly I'm under a pile of research papers :( , but one the bright side, I'll be back again when the masters over.....

Wow, very nice raptor. Very Very Nice.

suggestions:

the table lamps, you might want to have a few seams going up and down and maybe even add a dirt map, just so its not so smooth.

the light comming from the fire place, maybe add a noise map and a projection map varying the color of it to simulate fire more.

And the table on the left and the legs of the couch on the left need to have some sort of shadow on the legs so they don't look like they are floating.

all in all its pretty awesome. I wish I could recreate something like this. One day I'll have the time to dedicate to it. :)
