For me its all about sensor size, canon/panasonic doesnt matter.Panasonic sensor is abit too small.IF panasonic would have full frame then it would be different im 100% sure .

how's that bothering you while shooting with M4/3? can't find any problem...

i agree, the full frame sensor is one of the major plus points for me  hadn't realised how different it would be to my GH13 until i bought one.

can you please explain to me the the necessity of that crazy shallow DOF while filmmaking?
when i need it i get more than enough (and i mean it- it's too much!!) with an FD 50mm 1.4

No its not that, perspective on 50mm full frame is very nice , its not too wide for face and doesnt distort like 28mm on APS-C when you are close to the cam, its not easy to explain, on full frame when you crop to cinemascope you got anamorphic feeling because 50mm looks wider while still having quite flat perspective and you could get out of focus background while having whole subject in frame, on gh1/2 you need 25mm lens for that and on 25mm perspective is much wider when youre close to the camera.
On APS-C sometimes 28mm is barely enough for cinemascope to act as regular lens, its like 50mm on full frame.
Its not about super shallow, you can close down lens if you want but with gh1 you have 28mm f2.8 and if you frame subject from belt to top of the head then you are on infinity with sharp background , theres no more shallow depth of field and that looks like camcorder.
On his second video you can see it clearly, 50mm perspective on full frame does not look like 25mm on gh1 , on panasonic face have characteristics like when shot with wide angle lens, while on 5d face looks flat and nice.
And come on, 50mm f1.4 is like 100mm, on panasonic it becomes close up lens but with regular perspective, not good for close ups.

Funny enought, despite all that is said about 25mm being more distorted than the 50mm I actually like the look of the m4/3 sensor size.
I just did a blind test of the footage and actually thought the 5D footage looked more bulbous with less-flattering distortion.
I guess bcuz I look at GH1/2 footage all day im just used to it.
To each his own...

+1 Same point I always make. Crazy shallow DOF is not filmic at all to me. The shallow DOF is to be used subtley, to direct audience attention...

its not a necessity but i prefer having the ability than not having it.
the clip with the girl has to my eyes a more appealing background bokah from having the full frame sensor.

good interesting points bwwd

Well I like that the M43 sensor size is pretty close to the 35mm cine standard of Super35-- as are RED cams, Sony F3, Alexa, etc. The 5DmkII's 35mm full frame photo sensor is the abnormal one (in cine terms, not photo). I've been thinking in terms of that I have to do calculations in my head for focal length my weird M43 sensor size when working with others. But that's not the case, because it matches up fairly closely with RED. Generally, a 1.3 to 1.4x crop against the major players.

il not ask you to define filmic or we may open a whole new can of worms

'to each his own...' well said Boncrek, that was my initial point.

the 5DII being the 'abnormal one' with its full frame sensor is more than likely the reason its so popular, we should say the 'unique one'

exactly my point.

exactly my point.

lol... wasn't this thread more about why CANONS were favoured by clients?

threads like this always revert back to the same ongoing battle lol... people adamant that their camera is better than the rival camera

i own both a GH13 & 5DII so i feel i can unbiasedly view things.

Simply put i just dont like being forced to infinity focus with some lenses, id like to have out of focus background if i want to, with smaller sensor i have no choice when im already on infinity.APS-C is barely good enough with 28mm f2.8 , just dont like wide angle perspective cause 28mm is wide anlge for full frame and it distorts like wide angle.

don't really remember ;)
if it was, the answer still remains unknown..

hahaa i think it will always remain unknown friend

GH3 vs. 5DIII? battle of the 3's (coming to a forum near you nowhere near soon)

Next time someone tries to argue with you, just remind them:

Arguing over which DSLR is the best is like arguing over which wheelchair dolly is the best... it's a wheelchair dolly.

yip, its what we do with our "wheelchair dollies" that count

in the wise words of tuco from the good, the bad & the ugly

"when you have to shoot, shoot! dont talk!" now lets all the music that kicks in
