General Question about mounting the DR-60D to a 60D

I'm shooting with a Canon 60D on a Zacuto Striker and a Tripod. I'd like to have a way to mount a DR-60D to the Canon 60D without mounting it on the camera's tripod mount, and also be able to mount a Rode Videomic and a wireless receiver while still being able to keep the setup as minimalistic as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

The Striker is 15mm rod based, so you have the option of adding clamps and Noga/Israeli/Magic arms. HOWEVER, because the Striker is all front-weighted, the more you add to the rig the harder it will be to shoot stable handheld work.

I use a 90 degree rail clamp and add a rail perpendicular to the main rails, at the back, and mount the Tascam to that. I can mount wireless to the camera's hot shoe. I have the Rhode mic (the hot-shoe 1/8 jack mic) but don't use it for quality audio, since the Tascam has XLRs... if I don't have a boom op I mount a hyper on a c-stand. But I suppose you could mount the wireless to the top mount of the tascam and the mic to your hot shoe.

I just can't imagine attaching the Tascam to your rig for handheld - unless it was the counterweight and you really trusted your levels... and just let it run all day. BMC user had a thread (which I started but expanded to several pages) that had links to custom made waist packs for the Tascam.

If you're doing run and gun (particularly hand held) and absolutely need (a) quality audio, (b) an on-camera mic and (c) wireless... I'd really consider adding a "real" video camera to your collection. I've never been very happy with DSLRs for fast-moving events - having built-in NDs, XLRs, and fingertip control of zoom and focus means I get all the shots I intend to.

DSLRs are great interview cameras and great for pretty stuff, planned shoots, etc... I'd lose money if I tried to rely on them for events though. (Not sure what applies to you).

Here's how I mount mine, I've cleaned up the battery setup so it's more flush with top of the tascam though:

Also, adding a CAGE adds other mounting points. Again, though, you're trying to overload a front-weighted handheld rig.

You may be better off strapping the recorder to your chest with a BAG that has a pocket for your receiver. It would take a couple of short cable runs (one from your cam-mounted VideoMic to the recorder, and one from the recorder to the camera, but only if you feel you must record the cam-mounted mic to the recorder and your recorder audio to the camera.
