Price raise?

I was informed by someone within the industry that prices for video equipment are due to increase by 30% from March 2009 and that they'll be doing this in stages. There will be a similar increase for computer equipment (I had heard that this could be as much as 40%).

As David states, it's to do with the Yen

It looks likes B&H still have it at $3,200. Granted they are out of stock. I plan to pick one up in less than a month. Hopefully the prices don't go up...too much at least. If so, I'm just not going to buy one.

Not certain what you mean.

So if a Dell Mini 9 costs $400.00, it will rise to $530.00?

In a huge recession?

Just don't buy it then.

Amazon uses fluxing prices to stimulate sales.

Generally when prices are going to rise people buy quickly.

When they are going to drop they hold off buying.

In this case Amazon always fluctuates it's prices so you are kept guessing.

When it drops you want to "SNAP it up"!

While it's low so you can get it while it's hot so to speak!

We have a recession. If they want to sell more units and become more profitable they will need to lower prices or THEY will shrink their market.

So you're sayin yen might go up a bit and then the price will drop?

It would be the opposite if it goes up in relation to the dollar. It would go up as the Japanese profits would shrink even more.

Yen Up Prices Up

Yen Down Prices Down

But the prices that the Japanese manufacturers are quoting are not in Yen but are in Dollars.

Spec Comm shows it at 3,285.00 when added to the basket.

All EVS and Full Compass and others have good prices.

Don't ever rely on Amazon as a low price leader.

the popularity of this camera is climbing exponentially everyday. they can afford to charge more and get away with it, as opposed to being relatively unknown and have to lure new buyers in with a lower price. that's just what i think, anyhow.

They already are charging a premium price and their job is actually to charge as much for the camera as possible.

Our job is to pay as little as possible for the camera.

If that happens successfully we will reach market equilibrium.

If not we will have an imbalance.

Prices do fluxuate at individual stores, they do with all cameras. It happened while shopping for my last camera as well. Amazon was listing B&H as a seller of the HMC last month, but right now they are not on there, nor is J&R . But I am still seeing the HMC advertised elsewhere at the same $3199 that I paid for it early last month:

Eddit: Doh, out of stock, but my guess is that you can lock in the price. They are pretty reputable.
