C500: Price Drop on C500?

We'll have to agree to disagree there. I did say "more or less" and that's what I meant - you can get any 2 decent cameras to match closely enough that you can edit them together without them jarring.Steve

Depends. I shot a shortfilm with the 5d RAW (just excellent image) and a couple of b-roll shots from a nex-7 (really quite bad) were graded into it. You can't spot them because they were used in action shots and graded / noised the same way.

But if I would reverse the situation, used the nex-7 for everything else and the raw stuff for only a couple of action shots, the film would look considerably worse.

Well, for starters, this is an auction, the seller obviously was planning on getting more, but according to the seller the camera is perfect, no problem ;)
This is a reality, I could find c500s for around 7-8,000 about a year ago (in Europe).

Can't believe. May be there would be some problem with that piece else why will it sell so low?

On another note, does the Odyssey record in Prores from the c500?

Well, Samsung (officially) released an $800 4K camera today, kit lens included. Prices are dropping all across the market place.

And I assume, with Canon Raw conversion software, Q7 will record into whatever codecs it had acquired license for.

I did say "any 2 decent cameras"...I'm really thinking FS7, F5, F55, Epic, Alex, Amira, Varicam etc......not 5D and NEX7! Steve
Ya, but those are higher end cameras as well, so you'll have to decide between these various high priced options, making C500 fairly competitive with its new promotions.

Of course, in three months, this may all change.

Yes, C500 4K RAW to 4K ProRes or QHD RAW to UHD ProRes at 24, 25 and 30p. Introduced in the December Firmware Update.

I still think you're both misunderstanding what I am stating.

Yes, you can get two high end cameras to match one another. This is done by eliminating qualities of either or both cameras until they have reached a common level. That they are both high end cameras means that the common level is still excellent.

But there are certain qualities of individual camera designs that cannot be attained by another camera type, no matter what the quality level. You could make the two cameras match, but at the loss of that special imaging characteristic.

It is these special characteristics that I am referring to. There are certain qualities to the C500 that cannot be replicated by other manufacturers' cameras. The same is true with other high end brands. This is part of the reason that an Alexa looks like an Alexa, an F65 looks like an F65, and a C500 looks like a C500.

Hate to burst your bubble bud, but it was not "reality". and if you can find a c500 for that price I have some ocean front property in Kansas with your name written all over it :)

Haha, but I've already done that, did you bother checking the ebay link ;)

Anyway, not trying to burst your "bubble", the camera obviously sells for more usually, and it's a great camera, but the used market is a cruel one.

p.s. you do understand I'm talking Euros here right?

So if you want to shoot above or at 60p... you have shoot to raw... I could live with that...

I was wondering about the upgrade to the Q7... so if purchased the package I could upgrade to the Q7+...

yes, and the euro right now is worth less than the dollar. It began it's listing at 1 euro, that ought to tell you everything you need to know about that :) Look at the bidding history(likely his friends account being used to drive the price up).

The amount of ignorance in forums is staggering, as usual, but this is pretty basic stuff, pls do yourself a favour and stop :)

So, there are a bunch of Canon video rumors around. Some are EOS related, some more budget based, some purport to effect the prime time TV/feature film market. It all will be revealed at the NAB ... or whenever Canon feels like it.

PS. Euro is trading at $1.13 as of Friday.

My apologies, when I last checked the exchange rate I read them backwards(my wife is european and happily corrected me shortly after telling her), the euro is right now .87 to $1. Not a huge difference but I did read it incorrectly.
