Canon Rumors is reporting a $4K drop down to $7,999 starting on February, 1st.

First rumors appeared from Hong Kong a few weeks back.

This could also mean some new announcements beside 5DS, such as the 4K enabled 5D MK IV.

don't spect a 4k 5D at the moment. From what i understand the 5d line will be split into three different cameras. With the 5d MK IV that wont come out until like august and its going to be a good "all around" camera with "improved video capabilities". And the two the 5ds's which will be 50 megapixels cameras, not good in low light with a max of 6400 iso which and reports say that it might not even have video capabilities. So dont hold your breath on a 4k 5d next week, maybe down the line but don't expect much since canon have their head in the sand.

If you only plan on using the 1D C for video, then perhaps it would not be a wise purchase. If you are planning on using the Canon 1D C as a stills camera and a video camera I believe it is a smart purchase. What most video only people tend to ignore is the fact that you are not only purchasing a great video camera, but you are also purchasing Canon's flagship stills camera. I am tempted to purchase one at the new price since I shoot a lot of stills and video.

+1

Is it wrong to say that it's still overpriced?
I would say that one should wait on the mid-February CP+ announcements first. If Canon is going to release - or even hint at releasing - 5D MK IV with updated specs and similar to 1D C features, then there might be a better value option for the hybrid (still and video) shooters. It may not be the same as 1D C but considerably more affordable.

Video shooters might have to wait until the NAB to see if there are cinema series updates in the mode of 4K C300/500 and alike. Some pre-release cams are making rounds around Hollywood but the final specs and price points are either unknown or known to very few.

Posted this in another thread, but maybe more relevant here. If it had a few other key features:

- 10 bit internal
- more fps
- dpaf
- zebras, waveforms, peaking
- and some kind of optional xlr interface

The $8,000.00 price tag would be a more competitive item within the market. As it sits now I can't see many folks making the purchase even with the price drop, you just aren't getting enough for your money. It's a shame because there is a market for a camera like this and a special magic to the media it can produce in the right hands. Panasonic will never develop a full frame sensor and I personally wouldn't touch an a7s/shogun with a 10ft stick. BUT... There is nothing else as compact, rugged and capable as the 1dc and I hope it's successor(yes I believe one is coming) lands with the additional features @ the same price point.

Anybody know if the price drop will be in Canada too? Vistek and Henry's both list it still at $12,500.
It should be global. Call these retailers, as they could be just slow in updating, or call/email Canon's North American HQ. Or both.
