Pics from the set

12 hour day, almost 100 degrees on pavement.
Shooting commercials in a parking lot with a pretty background for picture.

One 411 and one SRa?
How's the SRa living up?

haha yea sad looking rig isnt it?

I'm still in transition mode of selling off all my Block 28/29 gear.

The SRa is fine. There are many positives to the unit but there are a number of
negatives as well. Somedays I love it, someday it's a pain.

I will be keeping the SRa for awhile but I actually just bought
the brand new Zaxcom QRX100 (and 2x TRX900LT's)
It's supposed to be arriving this week. I'm one of the first 5 people to
get their hands on it so I'm really looking forward to it.

If it works out as well as I hope I can see myself switching completely
over to Zaxcom over the next year or so.

I've loved Lectros for the last 15 years but I feel they are
just too big of a company anymore to really listen to their customers.
The products they are putting out just seem out of touch a bit.
Obviously still great products though.

Here's a pic of the heaviest rig I've ever had to deal with.
It was well over 40lbs.
It was for a well known reality show and it was also the job that
I decided was my LAST reality show.

Looking closer at the picture I see it doubles as a diaper bag when you are not on location. Very clever!

Happy to hear about the QRX100! Comparisons to be expected soon I hope.
The SRa is a hit and miss. If it had tracking front end, awesome!

i recently rented the SRa, got it all set up the day before and it sounded great. then client called and cancelled shoot... so i didn't get to play with it that much. still debating on buying another wireless kit with Obama wanting to take over more freq space.

Here's a pic of my ex cart.
Took this shot on a show I did about a year and a half ago. (antenna masts are outside the doorway)

It's funny, the only things I have remaining are the 788T, The Powermax ultra and the comtek 216 (which will be replaced in the not too distant future)
Everything else has been sold and I moved on.

I currently own the Sound Devices CL-8 controller and the CL-9 will be my next cart based controller/mixer.

Rippie, you traded your Yamaha for the CL-9 for mixing? I thought once you go big, you would never go back to a smaller setup.

To simplify things, I have everything in the Petrol bags. If I need some distance from my wireless, the antennas come out and wireless boom if necessary. Need more batteries, just haul a larger battery. I'm on horizontal rather than the "popular in demand" vertical setup.

There are a lot of problems with the yamaha route that I didn't care for.

Power requirements
No input limiters (this was the killer for me)
The sound quality is just not up to par in my opinion. The mic pre's aren't terrible
but just not the same compared to higher end mixers.
Its huge.
Its extremely heavy.

The amazing thing about this board is the routing.
If I was doing a show where I had very complex routing involved I could see
this being the way to go, but there were just too many negatives for me to
want to keep going that route.

My goal is to get a smaller and smaller footprint while at the same time
raising the quality to a very high standard.

Great thread Rippie thanks. Not having good limiters is terribly bad for the nerves .. likely shorten a persons career.
Cheers.

Here's another attempt to keep this thread going.
(come on people lets see what ya got!)

This was one of my most fav jobs I've ever done.

Snapped this photo with my iPhone last week on "set," which in this case was a state park on the Central California Coast. My friend Eric and I were shooting aerial (r/c heli) shots on the 5DII for a feature film. That's all I can tell you for now, but I'll try to post more BTS shots later.

Absolutely gorgeous!

OK, I'll bite.

I don't do much production so these are pretty far flung.
Usually I'm recording places and things, like this bunker.

Or editing with directors and composers breathing down my neck.

But every once in awhile...

Marsha%20Hunt%20hand%20touchup.jpg

Those were from a short. The Art Director worked on TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and the older actress is Marsha Hunt. She used to regale us with stories from old Hollywood. She worked at MGM while they were making The Wizard of OZ and auditioned for Gone With The Wind.

Then there are the periodic Dalai Lama gigs.

and our house gets used for a set periodically, I didn't do production on this one but I'm wrapping up post on it so it should count.

And this spec promo for a very strange ice cream maker (that's liquid Nitrogen she's poring in there!)

Smitten%20N2%20pour.jpg

Then there are the doc.s This is in the studio with the JAWBREAKERS.

In%20Studio%20w-%20Jawbreakers.jpg

And the concert recordings.
EP%20percusion.jpg

Oh and another recording session, and the problems of recording and ridding...

Riding%20%26%20recording.jpg

Riding%20warning.jpg

I'm taking the pictures and laughing. I tried a similar setup while ridding a camel, it's just not recommended.

And for you David Lynch fans, this is part of something like 5,000 hours of recordings done by his sound designer. Your only seeing a portion of this library, all on 1/4 inch tape. I was helping his widow and partner (Ann Kroeber -in the chair) digitize and catalog it all. Actually it's still going on.

Ann%20Fantasy%20Office.jpg

and lastly a shot from a setup for an ad we did for the American Stock exchange. This was shot in the Wall Street station Aug. 30 2001

That should keep things going for awhile.

Filmed this last weekend. It's film about a young boy thrown into a life of friendship, love, booze and butchery (hence the awesome photo above.) That's my boom op playing the butcher. He made me so proud :cheesy:

was on a shoot last week using a sweet kit, sending sound to varicam. talking heads on green screen and then some exterior interview stuff.

Older stuff here, but In this shoot I had my SD MixPre modified so I could attach it to my camera, which was also modified for cleaner sound.

Here's the ad from the bathroom shoot. I did the jingle as well! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSnzKFglkQM

I'm embarrassed by my gear that has all been replaced with nice mics and a pair of EX1 cameras. I need to get some current shots! Too often I'm doing one man band style, and too busy for photo ops...
