Panasonic Removable Lens Four Thirds HD AVCHD Camera

I just got an e-mail that mine is ready to ship out tomorrow so I should have a GH1 on Tuesday! (depending on US customs)

We are planning an exhaustive test of the "movie" functions that will hopefully be posted later next week.

How are you gonna sleep til then? I haven't figured that part out yet. LoL. I'm preparing casting notices so I guess I have something else important to do.

Mines arrives on Monday via plane with the 7-14mm Vario lens. I couldn't resist! Only got one cam instead of two though.

You already purchased one Kholi? I didn't know they were for sale, yet.

I'm glad you got the first one because you're like one of the DVXuser Equipment Reviewers...you should have your own gadget talk show.

Laters,
Andy

They go on sale today in .JP. One day ahead of us. So a friend and his wife are going to go and pick my camera kit and the other lens up today and they're bringing it back with them on ze plane.

Hopefully I'll have a review worthy of the DVXuser review section. Then Hunter's findings and his ultimately better footages. LoL

This is crazy. But I love it!

On page 5 of this insanely long thread (now 41 pages) Barry posted links to Nikon, Canon and Leica lens adapters.

My question ... what will happen if I buy an adapter and slap a Nikon 50mm 1.4 on this thing? Anything? (I know absolutely nothing about "four-thirds" camera bodies, that's why I'm asking).

I'm ordering an EOS (if possible) or Contax and Yashica adapter right now.

The 50's going to turn into a 100 I think, or somewhere around there from what everyone's saying. So you'll have a 100/1.4 LoL

That's the cool thing about Full Frame. The faster lenses that can cover Full Frame specs become faster wides.

Note: you will want to purchase an extra two batteries or so for these things. Battery Life on DSLRs were never meant to sustain long periods of video acquisition. My D90 battery gets devoured swiftly.

Can you guys tell me if the x's 2 crop factor still applies after reading this:

http://fourthirds-user.com/2009/04/the_biggest_four_thirds_sensor_yet.php

What I'm referring to is how they tout it as having a wider than normal sensor for a 4.3s camera.

This is exactly why the speculation rolls out of the window until proven. Panasonic had already released info that their GH-1 had a different sensor than the recent G1. So everyone comparing stills and all that have no idea what the new sensor's going to output.

Ian, Hunter and I will know by the beginning of next week. I'll still have either my D90 or D70s to compare directly with. If not, then I'll find someone's to do so.

The 50mm will turn into a 100mm?!?!? Good grief.

OK, more questions. The Canon 5D stops recording after it reaches 4GB, right? What about the GH-1?

What SD cards will you guys be using?

I hope Panasonic start making a battery pack for the GH1. That way you will have couple of them there plus it makes the camera bigger and easier to hold on to.

Weight is good! Discreet Weight is even better! I love the shiet out of the bootleg Redrockrig I've got. It makes shooting with these things so nice.

That flip out screen will seal it for me. Jammin the camera into a corner is awesome but you can't see the LCD on the 5D or D90. Mmmm that Lumix LCD goes where I need it to go. Lovin' it.

wow, this actually exciting in a dorky way, peple at work keep looking at me like i have 3 heads. i just got the Nikkor 18-200mm VR, do you guys think its worth keeping considering i will be buying the gh1 package w/ "long" lens?Jona

I am planning on getting the 3 inch Hoodman loupe and attach it to the LCD once in a while although is cool that you can use the viewfinder for shooting movie.

I want that 18-200 really bad. Specifically because it's got VR and it's of decent quality. I got a chance to play with one for a while. The question is if you can find a Nikon adapter that keeps all of the functions, auto focus and stabilization, running on the Lumix body.

That one we dunno yet, but I'm sure you can google around on the net to find out.

Umm YEAH. The Viewfinder will ALSO make things a lot easier. Just get an Eyepiece cup at your Local Samy's or wherever and it's gold.

Being able to use that Eyepiece when the LCD isn't of favor is yet ANOTHER plus.

sounds great, I have always been a big fan of panasonic, so will be indulging in one.... hopefully this will give Canon/Nikon a kick up the ass in bringing us manual control too.

Hey Kholi,

What bootleg Redrockrig are you talking about? Just wondering because I was looking at the Redrock dslr rig which is so sweet but so expensive.

Thanks,
Andy

There are two links and a video there. In short, it's the RR shoulder mount ghetto-rigged to do anything with the handles.

I'm gonna put up a video of how it works as soon as I get a chance, but it's awesome. Not because I made it, but because it's janky and it works.

Yesterday I had the handles twisted in this "Z" configuration that allowed me to rest one elbow on a ladder and the other against my hip, the camera was on the proper plane i.e. not dutched or tilted and steady as a rock. But still featured the handheld flavor.

I'll be the first to tell you that Redrock's current setup is pretty sweet looking, but honestly impractical for the application. Unless you're just straight studio setup, then the Zacuto shoulder rig and Redrock's rig work out.

Redrock has some DSLR 2.0 stuff coming out at NAB, they may have announced it already. It's a little closer to what I've constructed but not the whole bag. It's a bit more discreet but still doesn't alot for complete freedom. I showed Brian my bootleg rig and he got what I meant in person.
