Panasonic Removable Lens Four Thirds HD AVCHD Camera

hey kholi,

wouldnt the OIS on the new gh1 kit be the same as the VR on the Nikkor albeith being diff lens? wouldnt they serve the same function?

Zacuto had some DSLR stuff. They have a video on it. In their video they indicate the big feature is a huge eyepiece over the liveview screen.

Kholi,

sorry, i should have been clearer with my question, was using mobile device at work. What I meant, do i need to keep the Nikon 18-200 VR if the GH1 + lens also has OIS? It's pretty much having two lens that do the same thing is it not? if the GH1's lens/body does the same as the VR, then I don't need to keep. Am I correct or is there something that one would benefit more than the other besides focal lengths?

Well, technically. The 14-140/4 might be a constant, I cant' remember right this second. But the 18-200 will be a longer lens, you know. At least I think.

So it's a choice.

Can you guys tell me if the x's 2 crop factor still applies after reading this:

http://fourthirds-user.com/2009/04/the_biggest_four_thirds_sensor_yet.php

What I'm referring to is how they tout it as having a wider than normal sensor for a 4.3s camera.
it has the same concept to the lumix lx3. instead of having a 4:3 sensor and cropping to get 16x9,
its sensor is bigger so it utilizes the bigger space of the len's image circle

no diff on cropt factor, its still 2x. it;; just be wider than a 4:3

Not in Video Mode. The Video mode is supposed to use the entire 16:9 sensor, that's what Liza Witz was talkin' about before.

i think that would calculate to 60 to 600? im not sure

35 - 400 I think, but maybe a little wider. All depends on what the new sensor boasts.

But I'd love to have a 400mm telephoto end. Long Lens photography/cinematography is awesome!

What I saw was 720/60p footage that looked really, really, really good. Now, let's be fair, this was demo footage designed to show the camera looking good, but DANG did it look good.

Did not have a chance to play with it at that time. But I have had that chance now. Unfortunately I had no idea how to use the camera so I didn't get anything good. I'll review what footage I got and if any of it is in any way in focus and looks halfway decent, I'll post it. Heck, I don't even know whether I was shooting in 1080/24p or 720/60p...

In my experimentation shallow DOF was not all that easy to get with the stock lens. I'd definitely say you're going to want to get an accessory f/1.4 lens or something rather than just the 10x zoom that comes with it; I think the display had me mainly shooting at f/5.6, and you don't get all that shallow of DOF at f/5.6. But, again, I've only seen that footage on the LCD; I'll check it out when I get home. Flying out tonight.

well those are DX lenses which arent equivalent to FX/fullframe

18(dx eqv) x1.5(dx crop) = 28(fx eqv) x 2 (m43 crop) = 56 (m43 eqv)

im not sure though :)

EDIT
barry, please check for the 1/48 shutter and HDMI! thats all people want to hear :)

Yes HDMI please check. I would love to hook this up to my macbook pro with an io express. That would be a giant step above the quality that is being offered for under $4,000

Couldn't figure out the shutter, I had literally only a couple of minutes with the thing, and I had enough of a time trying to figure out what the little symbols meant. :)

But I was THIS CLOSE to answering the HDMI question. I had the camera near an HMC150 which was HDMI-connected to a monitor, so all I had to do was pop the cable out of the 150 and plug it into the .. aw, cripes, the gh1 uses a MINI-HDMI connector! Cable wouldn't fit.

So, I tried, but came up short.
