GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

Page 60 lists "Rolling Shutter Distortion Correction" for the 4K / 6K Photo modes, and I wonder if this applies to video modes too ?

Lots of cool still photo features from page 72 and on...

Post Focus ( choose your focus after you've shot )

Focus Stacking ( very deep DOF by compositing multiple images at different focus points )

Composite up to 40 images into one image

Focus bracketing

Clear Retouch ( in camera : retouch things out of the image using your finger )

Page 12 makes it sound like the GH4's ugly color errors as skin tones shifted from highlight to shadow may be squashed. This would be HUGE !!! as those localized errors are basically impossible to fix in post, and subpar skin tones have always been my main complaint about the Panasonic "look".

Awesome, that presentation confirms that pretty much all the existing Lumix lenses will be getting firmware updates for Dual IS 2.

All of those adds make me excited, I will mostly use it as a video camera but its nice to know the photo side is beefy as well. Throwing a speedbooster on it and I will be using it as a scout cam/B cam/walk around cam. Super excited for this thing.

If I read it right on page 33 normal HDMI out, no mini or micro (finally!) and a cable lock included. The Achilles' heel healed... ;-)
Confirmed, and we're all rejoicing! I definitely didn't see them allocating precious space to a full-sized port, but am so glad they listened and did. It's this attention to detail that makes the GH line such a great all-around package even if some other camera can beat it on one spec or another.

Reading the specs list is a bit like "then" having a toy store catalogue in hand before christmas - with one difference: This time we seem to get it. I know we already have the DR discussion running - honestly there are so many nice features build in I hardly could care. Focussing with a joy stick, better monitor, better colour rendition...... these things bugged me much more than the question about 12 or 13 stops...

Yeah, very good features. The PDF is not telling but the GH5 may even show exposure info during video...

Let's hope it's only during VFR. With the removal of the OLPF, it's something to watch out for.

It was only in VFR for the GH4, at least insofar as it was noticeably much, much worse at 96fps and cleaned up a lot at 60fps. I'm hoping it'll be better at around 120 fps or so on the GH5. Also, Nick Driftwood said something interesting on his VFR video with the seagull, that doing the 180fps VFR at FHD 60p/50p was better than 30p/25p/24p. He didn't really elaborate on what specifically that means, but I'm wondering if the 180fps looks better conformed in camera to 60p rather than 24p? Then from there you could conform the 60p to 24p in post?

4k on the GH4 always looked cleaner because there was no scaling of the sensor. A perfect 1:1 output. The GH5 is a bit different this time which is why some have a concern. The full sensor is being scaled to 4k. So far all the 4k material I have downloaded from the GH5 looks great without any of the issues I was concerned about. Its still too early to know for sure if the down conversion method the GH5 is using will not have any aliasing or moire at all but so far so good. VFR is a pretty big down conversion from the full sensor and we don't know what corners have to be cut in order to process 180 frames per second. Sometimes the GH4 uses different down conversion methods based on how much extra processing the camera has to do. Thats why 96fps 1080p looked worse than 1080p FHD at up to 60 fps. different scaling methods were used to cut down on processor load. 60p is a normal functionality of the camera so it should always look at good as 30p or 24p. It is beyond that where things tend to get a bit funky.

Honestly the 180 fps is more of a gravy feature for me anyways. Cool to have it when needed but if I'm concerned about quality which is why I use a 4k camera in the first place then I'm not likely to use very much. With that said not all the shots at 180fps looked all that bad and I think they look much better than how the 96fps looked on the GH4. On the GH5 it seems to be more of just a high frequency detail issue vs just a really bad down conversion. Overall outside of some potential aliasing of extreme fine detailed patterns I think it looks pretty clean.

Reading between the lines, the camera assigns more bandwidth if the base frame rate is 60P. (Which makes sense.) If that's true, it's a neat little hack to remember.
