GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

Yes, the GH5 autofocus does not look very usable.Has been said previously,in many curcumstances i hold my hands up on a lot of the type of filming i do i have to use AF, my manualy focused film would be worse than leaving it to the camera,so will the AF be better than the poor GH4 AF.
Some idea of performance here: https://youtu.be/r-yTxgtYh-8

Not gonna compare with anything like the Canon Dual Pixel system, but it is demonstrably better than the GH4.

He really needed to say exactly how he set up the autofocus settings for this test to be of any use whatsoever. See my earlier post for instructions from Panasonic rep.

Those settings related to nuances of CAF prediction. There's still plenty you can discern from this alone.

Scroll down to last entry on yesterday's 4/3 Rumors for manual download: http://www.43rumors.com/
Okay, just downloaded it and searched, and yes, the GH5 also has the AF SPEED and AF SENSITIVITY menu options, similar to what the UX180/UX90/DVX200 have.

Anybody who makes judgements on the GH5's autofocus, without exploring the effect of adjusting those settings, is behaving foolishly. On the UX/DVX, they make a HUGE difference in how the autofocus responds and in how quickly it tracks! Furthermore, autofocus performance is going to vary from lens to lens -- some lenses' built-in autofocus motors are going to suck, frankly, and some may be excellent.

So I strongly encourage everyone to utterly ignore and avoid making any decisions on autofocus performance until someone who knows exactly what they're doing demonstrates exactly what the differences are. You may be surprised.

Thanks Barry! Agreed on this and so many other counts, on so many cameras and features. One thing I've learned over time is how many people post things or complain about things without knowing how to use them. From people saying the zhiyun crane jitters (they didn't balance it right, or saw videos and reviews posted on Youtube from people who don't know how to work it) to the Mavic Pro having terrible quality (people using settings wrong, compressing wrong, etc.), and so on...

Regarding vlog upgrade, if I want it on launch, do I have to pre-order that now somewhere (is it snail mail like the GH4 was?) or can I just purchase online once I have the camera and enter serial key to unlock immediately?

Want to make sure I am ready out the gate

I believe it is the same as for the GH4. Physical card that needs to be shipped or picked up. At least that's what I have.

You don't need a camera to order V-log. You only need it to activate the V-log.

The V-log update is mailed physically so retailers could sku and sell an actual product. A virtual online update would have been rather difficult to sell through places like B&H which needs to have a physical product to sell.

Once you get the V-log update in the mail just keep it safe until you get your camera. Then you go through the steps to activate the update for your specific camera serial number. Its a pain but a necessary evil to have a paid update.
