GH4 Panasonic GH5 coming in 2017

Yeah, I don't think Anamorphic on DSLR's is worth the hassle. Most of the footage I've seen has issues. If you want that waterfall/oval shaped bokeh, you can just slap one of these on the front of your lens. http://www.vid-atlantic.com/products/cinemorph. I actually had my wife print up a similarly shaped insert on her Silhouette that I put between my lens and my speedbooster. Worked just as well, but you lose a stop with these.
True anamorphic lenses render a unique image that is differentiated by more than just the oval bokeh, but it's a harder aesthetic to achieve. If you're trying to do it with these kludgy adapters, it's doubly hard. I think the lack of good footage has more to do with the skill/effort required to work with anamorphics, and the types of productions DSLR's users typically engage in, rather than anything inherent about DSLR's themselves.

Veydra was developing dedicated anamorphic lenses for the GH4 and then stopped when Panasonic told them that the GH5 sensor was going to be very different. So maybe Vedra will show something for the GH5 at NAB 2017.

And I meant as much. Most people shooting on DSLR's generally don't have the resources or crew needed to pull off good anamorphic. Ends up not being worth the hassle. I think the way it renders out of focus areas is a large part of the look, not the flares, and its an easy way to get a close approximation that doesn't add bulk to your rig and have all the issues that true anamorphic does.

More confirmation of the same bad 24p HDMI lag. He does a rolling shutter test at 46:20 in 24p and you can see the delay. Especially watch when he stops panning back and forth, and when the image stops on the screen. Before this test, he does the same at 4k 60p, which has virtually no lag. Interestingly, the next test he does is 1080 60p, which has a slight lag, not as good as at 4k 60, but better than 4k 24p. I wonder if it would be possible for them to offer an option that monitors out in 60p, but records internally in 24. They already have a similar option for audio monitoring (realtime/recorded).

I wonder what the 4K30p lag is like - I was really hoping it was better than my GH4/Flame combo at the moment.

So i may have a chance to talk to the Panasonic rep later today. What remaining questions do we have for him? 1. HDMI lag? 2. XL clearance? 3. formal DR numbers? ..... what else?

My question would be if the 'Like709' profile with a proper knee could achieve a similar dynamic range as V-LogL.

Is the debayering pattern in the 4K crop mode (4K window) the same as when the entire sensor is used? 9X9 pixels, not the usual 2x2.

Yes, I suspect that YouTube employs noise reduction during their file processing. I've seen clips on there that had added noise look noise-less.

.... if your STORY relies on oval shaped bokeh in the background..... well....... :D

It's a tool that can be used like any tool in filmmaking, for visual or dramatic impact. Denzel Washington chose anamorphic on Fences because he felt the stretched, unnatural bokeh draws the eye more strongly to the actor's face. Every project is different and has different visual needs.

Base ISO in normal + vlog modes? Dynamic Range fall over higher ISO range?

AutoFocus in slow motion - I have heard conflicting things. What is the highest VFR mode that AF will function? 60p? In Both 1080 and 4K

Any updates to the actual Lumix APP itself? We still can't do full screen monitoring on it - will this change? Additionally it can be unrealiable, etc. Looking at their version history they do almost nothing with the app except add camera support and it could be SO MUCH BETTER. What are the plans here?

Will they consider a 400mbps IPB mode? I'd love that bitrate to be used for better quality slow motion, or better quality in shots where I don't need all-intra. Dissapointing that the bitrate is clearly available but forces us into using ALL-I to get at it.

What are the 3 biggest gotchas that they aren't telling anyone about new features?

There was a graphic released stating that 48p mode will be available in 4:2:2 10-bit in the summer. Can we get confirmation on this? Want to confirm this was not an error.

Can you ask if the final FW can show exposure info during all video modes?

Is the AFS working in 6k photo? GH4 uses only AFC which is unreliable.
