GH4 Panasonic discovered a fix for the audio buzz!

GH4 Audio Buzz Repair Instructions

GH4 Audio Buzz Repair Instructions

I just contacted my rep at Panasonic who forwarded me the GH4 Buzz Repair instructions below:

In conjunction with our v1.1 GH4 firmware release, we will begin sharing the news today that we have a solution forthe "audio buzz" issue that some people reported. This problem can occur when a non-Panasonic external microphone is used with GH4.It does not occur when the DMW-MS2 is used, or with the GH4's internal microphone.

The customer will need to send their camera to our McAllen,TX repair facility where a modification will be done, quickly. All units will be returned to the customer via 2nd Day shipping.

Any customer who contacts Panasonic about the "audio buzz" issue should be directed to contact Maria Alonzo whose contact info is provided below.

Terry: can you ask the rep when this was/will be fixed on the production line? e.g., after a certain serial#?

I'm curious just what that modification is? Perhaps this is just my 'bean-counter paranoia' kicking in, but there are often multiple ways of correcting an issue, and publicly traded companies (whose primary responsibility is to the shareholder, not the customer) don't always choose the 'correct' way.

If you're not happy paying the shipping charges, return your camera to the retailer you bought it from and tell them it's a known warranty issue. They will then have to send it back to Panasonic for the fix.

Got an email back from Maria with instructions and sent the camera to McAllen today. Thanks again for the post!

So is it advised all GH4 users ship their camera in for repair?

I have tried several microphones including the rode videomic pro, I have upped the gain on the camera, upped the gain on the mic, changed shutter speeds and recording formats, and tried different headphones ( cheap and expensive) while sitting in a closed off room. I have heard no buzz and I got a camera very early on. Haven't heard much from people without the issue only from people who have so maybe you should check your cam.

I didn't necessarily notice/hear it either. But the way I noticed that my GH4 had it (easy test) is by plugging in your rode videomic pro, but have the Rode mic OFF. Then you'll probably be able to hear it.

Yep, same here. I couldn't hear it unless I turned the Rode Videomic Pro off while it was plugged in. Unplugged, no buzz. Plugged in, and turned on, no buzz. So, I'm on the fence about sending the camera back.

Damn, I was using the audio buzz as an "excuse" for not buying the GH4. Now I need to get off this fence!

cheers and congrats to all you GH4 pioneers. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):
