GH4 Panasonic discovered a fix for the audio buzz!

Our updated GH4 bodies and kits arrived today from Panasonic service.

The entire process took about 7 days.

If you place a new order below, add a note about wanting the Audio Buzz Updated GH4.

Panasonic GH4 Body $1699.99

Panasonic GH4 Kit with YAGH 4K Interface $3299.99

Texas Media Systems sent a shipment of GH4s bodies and kits this week to Panasonic in McAllen to get the Audio Buzz fix and Version 1.1 Firmware installed.

We're hoping to get the updated GH4s back next week.

Factory shipped cameras with the Audio Buzz fix and Ver 1.1 could take another month or so to work their way from the factory to the USA.

No email upon receiving. I emailed Maria to confirm that they had it and she responded to confirm that it'd begun the repair process. I also emailed her to request repair status and she notified me soon after when it was shipped from McAllen with FedEx tracking number.
Excellent, thank you. I suppose I'll send Maria another e-mail. Last time I did it seemed she was a bit overwhelmed with all the communication she was receiving over the returns, makes me wish the process was a bit more structured for her and our benefit. But at least it's getting done.

Just received my shipping notification as well. Should arrive by the end of the week, which would make it exactly 2 weeks since the GH4 left my hands.

This is great news but what if you live in the UK ?
I live in Estonia, so yeah, don´t know where to turn with it.
We have Panaservice here, which deals with fixing Panasonics stuff, but Im sure they are not aware of the problem at all. Right now I have DMW-MS2 on order from them, payed half the price already.
Damn.. Reckon I should call them and ask them for the fix? Or might as well wait if the mic arrives and see if the problem affects their own mic.
What about for the rest of the world???
I've entered in touch with Panasonic Iberia (Portuguese branch) through their technical assistance in the country (Tamet) where I could speak with Inês Pereira who kindly asked information on topic in order to forward to the hierarchy. I hope to have an answer still today.

Hope this helps everyone in the same boat as all of us, loyal customers of this brand in Europe (in my case since 1990).

On the road,

Emanuel :-)

I'm Spain based - so fingers crossed for a Euro fix too!

Panasonic received my GH4 this past Monday the 21st, and they just emailed me that they are shipping it out today (the 24th) via FedEx. Very happy with the fast turnaround. I'll post here once I receive my camera (which should be this coming Monday the 28th) and let you all know how the fix is working out.

Panasonic Iberia - Portuguese branch has confirmed, they offer the solution, as well. You can contact Inês Pereira: d.a.clientes2 at tamet.pt (Panasonic Technical Assistance in Portugal).

Good news to the worldwide customers.

E :-)

I'm based in Japan. I contacted PanaUSA and they haven't given me a contact yet for Japan. When/if I get one, I will share it here.

Just got my camera back from Panasonic, but of course I forgot to bring my camera bag with me so I don't have a battery, lenses, or a mic to test anything out! But it was packaged extremely well and arrived in pristine condition, so that's nice. They got it last Monday, so just about a week turn around.

I got my camera back from Panasonic yesterday. Everything was shipped in perfect condition, and the camera was even packaged in a sealed plastic bag!

Took it out, turned it on, plugged in headphones... NO BUZZ!

Added an external Rode VideoMic Pro... STILL NO BUZZ!!!

WOO HOO! IT WORKED!

Very happy with the fast turnaround and fix to the problem. Well worth the $30 shipping to the Panasonic factory to get this taken care of.

Bit late to the game here, but I got a chance to test my GH4 out with a Rode VideoMic. Following the steps on the Suggestion of Motion site, I clearly heard the buzz. I emailed the Panasonic rep Maria Alonzo last month about this to see if I should send it in anyway without testing, but I didn't get a specific answer. She just sent info on how to send it back. I wanted to test and verify it was there before I went ahead and sent it. I'll ship it off tomorrow. No accessories, so I should remove the battery, correct?

Sol (Who discovered the buzz) wrote like this " In my testing, I've discovered that the camera's audio channel 2 is about 2.5dB lower than channel 1 after the fix. It may be an isolated issue with the repair done to my GH4, but this is obviously not ideal and I would recommend holding off on sending your GH4 in for the buzz fix until the issue can be sorted out. "

I just looked at some post repair clips and mine seems to be the same way, but channel 1 seems a little bit lower. Looking at a pre-update clip the two channels are perfect. To be honest, I'm getting tired of thinking about these things - I don't want to send my camera back in. Am I missing something or am I correct to assume "what does it matter?" especially if you're running mono mics only onto both channels anyway (most shotguns). Please correct me if I'm wrong. signed, my preoccupation with my GH4 is effecting my sex life.

Where did he post this?

Just to clarify, I did not discover the buzz. AFAIK, Tim Irwin (tacotim) did. At the very least, he's the one who got the ball rolling by starting the discussion with Panasonic.

Where did he post this?

It was sent in an email to people who signed up for updates on my site. I'll be posting more details here soon.

That's no good, although there are multiple ways of fixing that problem luckily. I would rather deal with levels/channels in post than with the buzz while monitoring audio and in post. Sent my camera yesterday and they will get it tomorrow. Will do testings as soon as I get it back.

btw, thanks a million Sol for the audio buzz form!

Emailed Panasonic UK about the audio buzz and repair options, got this response. "In response, I am pleased to inform you that there are no known issues with the Lumix DMC-GH4 produced for the UK market and they work fine." Mmm...

I also sent an email to Panasonic Germany but so far no response. A little clarity from Panasonic is needed here
