Panasonic BTLH80 monitor and the 7D

I'd like to be able to use my monitor when I get the 7D, but I'm having a very hard time trying to find the right cable to do so.

Is there a mini HDMI to BNC cable out there, or will I have to get HDMI type C to HDMI type A and then a BNC converter?

Thanks...that would certainly work, but it would be great to find something that didn't need any external power!

I have the Hi5. It's for going the other way -- HDSDI to HDMI. I use it to go from my Kona card HDSDI out to my HDMI monitors. It does require 5v powersupply.

What do you use for a power supply? Is there a small DVD player type battery that I could use to power the SDI box for the days worth of shooting? Its unfortunate I cant find an HDMI to Comp cable!

I use the Hi 5 in the studio , so I use a 110v adaptor. A device I have that could work for your application is the Convergent Design HD Connect MI. It can take HDMI and convert it to HDSDI. It's a bit of overkill, as it also adds rs422 control to firewire camcorders. This device also needs 5v supply as well.

Anyone have any luck with this?

Tried my 7D with a mini HDMI to HDMI plug, and with an HDMI to component cable with no luck.

Is there a workaround that I would not need to power?

You cannot use a simple HDMI to component cable because HDMI carries a digital signal, while component carries an analog signal. You need a special device that converts the digital signal to an analog one. These devices can be found for around $100 or more. One cheap and effective converter is the HDFury, which works without an external power supply.

Small print on the site: It does not require external power supply to operate when used with PS3 and Xbox360 (and some other cases).

Do you have the HD Fury and can confirm that it doesnt need power?

i am a little confused - it says that you need to choose a power option - how does this work without power?

I can confirm it.
Can you confirm that the HD Fury allows you to use an HDMI camera such as the 7D/GH1/HMC40 with an HD component monitor such as the BT-LH80?

It sounds like it should work, but before ordering I'd love to get a definitive confirmation.

Apparently there are devices that output power over the HDMI cable, and the Fury taps into it. But, if you're using a longer cable, or your device doesn't output enough power, or you want optimum quality, you'd want the external power box.
