Panasonic BTLH80 monitor and the 7D

It's a $1700 consumer SLR. It doesn't do everything the way a video camera does it.

So no, the LCD shuts off and there's nothing you can do about it. And yes, it gives you a lame-ish subsection of the monitor.

so weird....

oh well.

it's all good.

i think i'm going to send this HDfury thing back though, as without critical focus and proper color i have no use for an 8" monitor, i'd be better off buying a 13" consumer rig.

I'm wondering what people are using monitors for on this thing? playback for clients? monitoring low angle shots?

I'm really glad i didnt buy the backmagic!

How does the HDFury with component compare, sharpness and ability to focus, with the composite feed directly out of the camera? Given the monitor is the same.

The component signal will be HD while the composite signal is SD. The larger the monitor, the greater the difference.

I find that the best way to make sure your focus is spot on is to have a large monitor on set. I use a 24" and it's really easy to see focus. The task is to find a way to use both my 24" and a top mounted portable one for the cam operator at the same time. As passive splitter is not working well.

how well does component loop through (from an onboard to a director's monitor) work with the HDFury? I was going to explore that route - a Marshall or Ikan to my Panasonic BTLH900.
