Right now Sony is the King for Cinema line cameras as far as features and price range, Blackmagic Ursa is also up there . For Panasonic to appropriately compete with Sony they must introduce a Super 35mm sensor with an EF mount at a competitive price, my gut feeling though says they will NOT. They will introduce another micro four thirds to protect their more expensive Varicam LT and try to sell some more 4/3 lenses. If they introduce a super 35mm sensor it will be with a 4/3 mount. That's why it will be a baby varicam so it doesn't compete with it's bigger brothers. I hope I am wrong but we will find out next month.

Betcha a Coke(Regular, Diet or Zero ; ) ) it's not a m4/3 sensor or mount.

So what does a Varicam badge mean if it isn't based on the sensor tech?

The name was originally coined, because the cameras were capable of shooting VARIable frame rates. The VariCam line was also their flagship/high-end cine/ENG cameras and this has continued on.

Is it safe the to purchase a Varicam LT right now?

It is absolutely safe to purchase a VariCam LT right now. This camera will NOT be made obsolescent by the new camera. They are different machines and the VariCam LT is a terrific camera. Anyone buying a VariCam LT will not be disappointed with the purchase. Everyone who tries it loves it.

Thanks for the info, going ahead with it.

The plot thickens !
I know its only a rumour but it's going to happen sometime (even working a Canons pace)

Canon C200 4K !

We definitely need dual ISO now, If this camera has the same dual pixel autofocus as
the C300II then this will be a big selling point, I'm sure it's low light capability and DR will be pretty good too.
I guess it all depends on the 4K Codec used. I wonder if it will have 10bit internal recording ?

Believe me I want to be wrong, but based on what they have done in the past in that price range, I am 99.9% sure they are not going to kill the 4/3 mount.
