AC130: Panasonic ag ac130

I liked many of your settings included on the disc. Curious....what are your favorites for:

Bright Outdoor

Indoor lowlight

Cloudy day

Best cinema mode

Thanks and again an awesome manual!!!!!! Plus a great camera that is not really touted much like the SONY and CANON series. Lover the 130. Best kept secret.

Hi Lou, glad to hear theyve started arriving and that you like it!

Barry Green book in europe

Barry Green book in europe

I wonder, why US customers have Barry's book for free and Europe can't, why panasonic can't provide it online at least in English. And presets also unavailable(.
If there is any chances, help us, thanks

It won't be provided online because it doesn't exist in that format. It's only sold as a printed book.

Panasonic doesn't own the rights to the book and can't decide where it gets distributed. All the books are published by my company, not by Panasonic. Panasonic USA buys them from me and includes them in the box. On occasions, other divisions of Panasonic have done similarly. It is up to each territory to decide if they think that's a good use of their marketing dollars.

If you want to see it happen in Europe, ask Panasonic Europe to bundle the books with their cameras. I'd be glad to offer them the opportunity.

Barry Thanks for you hard work I am glad to see that you are being reimbursed for your efforts with your books. While it would be nice if all Panasonic territories included your book at least in the U.S. they pickup the costs of providing your book.

I am not sure if Europe offers a rebate on a 64Gb P2 card when bought with a HPX250 like US does but I noticed that Panasonic Canada does not have the same offer, so it is not just Barry's Book that is left out in other territories.

Maybe. I would never have guessed that they'd be compatible, as the AC160's hood is so much bigger than the HMC150's, but I just tried 'em; I took the hood off the HMC150 and snapped it right onto the front of the AC160, just like it was made for it.

That's no guarantee a fisheye lens will work, but it's a pretty good indicator that it might work!

Wait, I just re-read this.... are you saying that this is a viable approach to replacing the lens cap on the 130 - meaning, if I can obtain an HMC lens hood and cap, that should work? Have you looked for vignetting? I just sold my HMC, so can't try it first... but it would be great if a solution was so easy!

Amazon.com sells them internationally, yes. I have also just sent a pretty large quantity to www.holdan.co.uk, my distributor throughout Europe. You will probably see it showing up on European Amazon sites and in European dealerships in the next couple of weeks.

You can indeed do exactly that. The HMC150 lens hood can bayonet on and replace the AC130/AC160/HPX250 hood.

Vignetting? I didn't notice any.

There are two big differences:

1) the HMC150 hood is smaller, so the smooth transition from the hood to the focus ring isn't smooth anymore. But seeing as both cameras have identical fields of view, I didn't expect vignetting and didn't observe any.

2) the HMC150 hood has a 16x9 shape to it, whereas the 130/160/250 hood is completely round inside (which lets it accomodate the lens cap). Again, there is no vignetting, and in fact it's possible that the HMC150 hood would provide very slightly better flare protection due to the 16x9 shape, although the 130/160/250 hood is a lot deeper and so it may in fact provide better protection...

... but one thing's for certain, I do hate the lens cap on the 130/160/250, so maybe I'll get in the habit of using my 150's hood on the bigger camera.

yeah, the Panny lens cap has always been pretty crappy. The downside to the HMC150 lens hood is the giant lens cap/cover that you can't exactly stuff in your pocket (unless you wear very big pants anyway).

You can get aftermarket lens covers that are fabric slip-on style hood covers and those stuff easily into a pocket. Some also have an integrated white fabric so you can white balance through the lens cap.

Weird... maybe my pants are big... but I've always put the HVX and HMC lens caps in my pockets... in shirt pockets, too... never found a pocket too small!

And, they're hard to lose...

Are we talking about the same item? Again, not a lens cap (circular, flat) but on the HMC150 it's a roughly 3" x 5" piece of plastic with plastic jutting out at each of the 4 corners (probably about 1" - 2" deep). If that goes in your shirt pocket, then you are much more of a man than I will ever be. ;)

That's the cap, not the entire lens hood assembly (which is actually 3 parts....the hood, the cap and the 16:9 matte that says "Leica Dicomar" on it).

EDIT - Found it at spec comm:

You can see the hood and the matte (they call it an "aperture plate"). The hood is $63.15, the aperture plate is $22.67 and the cap is $39.37.

So for anyone looking to "upgrade" their AC160/130 lens hood, it'll run you about $125.79 (plus shipping, tax).

Alternatively, Porta Brace makes a lens cover (the one I referenced earlier) that isn't quite as elegant but is about half the cost:

That's the one with the integrated white balance card, if that's something you'd like.

this is the cover from Porta Brace, they come in a set of 3 so one cover is 1/6 the price of a 150 shade and cap. Mine came last week fits the 130/160/250 lens shade great

Yeah sorry...meant to mention it's a set of three.

The set I linked to (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...race_LC_CAPSET_LC_SET_SML_Lens_Cover_Set.html) actually comes with all 3 different sizes so you're guaranteed to get one that matches the size of your lens hood. Also handy if you have a mix of larger and smaller camcorders, like an HPX370 and an HPX250.

I don't think it'd fit in a shirt pocket, but yeah, like Ullanta, I put that in my pants pocket when shooting...

Boy i feel pumped up now! What a man!

I guess I should say that I choose shirts for work that have nice big pockets... I'll try with one of my "ordinary" shirts and let you know how manly I really am!

Y'all are all just such manly men, stuffing giant plastic in your pockets.

Maybe I need bigger pants...or pockets...or a European carry-all. Anyways...hrm, where was I? Oh, right....an integrated lens cap would be fantastic.

OK, I put the HVX cap in a pretty ordinary shirt pocket. I asked a passing stranger to do the same. He said it would never fit his shirt pocket, but loi and behold, it fit quite nicely. I took photos for y'all, but I don't think I can upload them from my phone. Tomorrow...
