Painting a GH2...

Long story short: My girlfriend wants a DSLR that shoots video. However, she requires that it be pink... She is willing to go for the GF2, but says it's not that pretty of a pink. If I can find a way to paint a GH2 pink (and maybe put some stars on it) she'll buy one... Which is good since I only have a Gh13.

I can't convince her to get a GH2 based on its specs alone. She could care less about the image quality being amazing as long as the DSLR is a pretty pink...

A more practical approach may be to find a girlfriend who likes black. :2vrolijk_08:

If she wants a camera based only on the color of the body, then she obviously doesn't care about the art of photography, or cinematography. I would go with a cheap point and shoot for her. Sounds to me like this would be right up her alley.
 
But guys... I can essentially get a free GH2 here. I just need a way to safely make it pink! Has anyone done this successfully?

I think if you're going to paint the Gh2 you should go for the silver, cuz it's already ugly, I wouldn't use spray paint, but if you do, do so very sparingly and very carefully, making sure that any cavity is sealed 100%. You could offer to give her a a pink case, and strap and things like that to sway her.
 
go to a sign company and get some custom vinyl clings made for it. I've scene every contour of a car seemlessly covered, surely they could do the front on a camera. You could get the exact pink that she wants printed. Ideally these would peel off without residue, that way you could get a few extra made and just rip them off when you want to use it. They might charge you some silly amount for the original design layout, but after that it should be cheap. You could sell them to other guys who are whipped enough to need wife/girlfriend approval to bring another camera into the house.

Dude.. I am not even going to get into the psychological implications of how whipped you are that you are even considering doing this...

I think this may take the cake for best ridiculous GH1 or GH2 thread EVER.. and I thought for sure I would be the king of that, but you have topped me.

So I present to you, your trophy:

Get her this camera, it uses real film which TOTALLY blows away the crappy digital garbage and artifacts of these panasonic cameras... AND.. dude. NO aliasing! AND it's cheaper, and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL...PINK!

It should be possible* to paint it with some gloss spray paint, and then use some wet and dry to make it really smooth when finished. You'll just have to be confident with taking the body apart to get to the plastics, and not mind having to re-lable buttons etc, and most probably voiding any warranty... Though if you did a good job I bet you'd double it's value. Not many pink GH2s around... :)

the idea dop16mm had about a sign shop should work. they probably have some extra material lying around that they do car wraps with and could print u whatever u want and wrap ur cam.
 
The scratching noise you hear comes from all the accessory makers scrambling to recoat their products... Pink mattebox, pink ff, pink tripod, pink work station... When will the madness end!!?

There is only one way to make this thread more ridiculouslerester... and that is to DEMAND that NOT only the camera be PINK, but that it come PRE-INSTALLED with an El DeBarge video:

My girlfriend would probably prefer a white body...I've been consulting with the local Party officials and they have her under suspicion of being a racist!?!?!?! She drinks a lot, watches FOX news, and yells obscenities at the homeless people on our street. She's not quite the Barbie Doll...and I haven't had the guts to check yet...but...I think the bullets in her revolver are bigger than the ones in my automatic pistol. Fortunately, she takes GREAT pics with the camera that came free with an Epson printer I bought at Circuit City a while back.


I'd gladly trade my GH13 and GH1 right now if you could give me a pair of GH2's clad in B&W checkerboard to match the Van's I had in the mid 80's. It wouldn't lessen my "skills" as a cheap videographer one bit.

When I was into Jeepin', there was a Jeep chick with a built pink "Barbie" Jeep, and she could out-wheel a lot of of us dudes. :D
