One new spec...

Jannard

Red Leader
The RED DRIVE is now a mini-RAID for under $1000. It is a better choice because it offers higher speed, the ability to use the entire drive for recording and has a 320GB capacity. The higher speed gives plenty of elbow room for REDCODE RAW and 4 channels of audio... plus metadata.

Jim

Sweet! :) Any specs on transfer speeds or run any tests passing RedCine data across one yet?

Things just keep getting better. My wife told me if I can't get a basic kit together for under $25k I would be sleeping in my car. I'm too big to sleep in a MINI so things are looking up for me.

We can make that work... don't want you to end up a pretzel.

Jim

Furthermore, if sleeping in a cars makes one a prezel then I'm a bumper king-size extended family party pack

Nothing wrong with pretzels

As long as they're warm and with mustard. No dijon, just plain French's.

Hell, if the Red Drive comes out at 320 gig for under $1k it's worth being twisted into a pretzel. Count me in for a deposit if needed.

This is huge Jim. Rob had alluded last week on another forum that developments were being made in this area that we would like... The peformance/price point will put alot power and flexibility in the hands of RED shooters. Not to be disrespectful to panny (always had good exper. with them- thanks Jan) but that would put the leather to P2.

Yup, I'm in. Gotta have some recording media. 320gigs/27megs = over 3 hrs. Excellent.

Whoa! Over 3 hours of 4k for that size? Probably less because there needs to be room for "audio and metadata". Jim, what is your estimate for time length we could record at 4k onto these?

Too late to do the math... but a looooong time. We might revisit the compression ratio given this turn of events. Or it also opens the door to higher frame rates?

Jim

Oh yes! Higher frame rates! I was super disapointed to hear that 4k with Red Drive would top out at 30p. It would rock my world if it could do 60p. Then I could get some 60p-24p smoothasbutter slomo. :-)

Oh man, wouldn't that just be the best. Is this a dream or what? If it is then don't wake me or I'll have to kill ya

Jim,

In light of recent developments, any chance of a hi-res 2.4:1 ratio/ 48frame setting?
