Olympus 14-35mm f/2.0

A lens support have to hold the lens. Not just have the lens resting on it.

I use a velcro strap that wraps around the lens and through the two holes on the support bar.

@SCSMath... the link above (on my previous post) shows all those lenses and their compatibilities with the 43->m43 adapter.

I would recommend to use the lens collar on the 35-100 and screw a supporting rod clamp into the collar. This will hold the lens so it doesn't move in any direction.

Thank you for your advice editman. Would you mind maybe showing me a link on B&H to the kind of part you are talking about? I don't have much experience with support systems and I'm not 100% sure what a "supporting rod clamp" is. I'm planning on buying the Redrock MicroSupport baseplate with rods (unless there is a cheaper quality alternative I'm no aware of) and then either that cool looking support that kylekmd mentioned or maybe just a simple supporting rod clamp like you are talking about.

Since the 14-35 doesn't have a lens collar what would you use for it?

Oh and by the way when can we see some more of your footage with AF100 + 14-35/35-100?? I'm digging the blog so far though... :D

You don't need support for the 14-35 and I didn't get a collar for that lens. Look at the supporting clamp I'm using. It's a quick put together from Berkey System but I think Zacuto has something very similar.

You screw the top screw into the lens collar and the tube can adjusted for different heights. It's a short vertical rod but you can put any length to allow more room to adjust.

I'll shoot some more once the weather gets better. We've had a snow blizzard here and lack of daylight makes it hard. Hopefully I have some commercial work were I can put the AF to use.

Great. Looking forward to it. I'm pretty much going to buy the same gear as your using, so it'll be cool to see how much better stuff your making with the exact same tools.... Always good to keep humbling yourself in this industry... :)

Although it's crazy expensive, the Zacuto is nice in that you can put it on and off the rails without removing the matte box, focus etc.

I don't know if would risk it. I use this (see below, $128) lens support with my OLY Zuikos (14-35mm, 35-100mm, 50-200mm). No tension on these bad boys. Like a strong athletic supporter.

I've been using the Redrock one as well for my Nikkor 80-200 and have been very happy so far. I looked at the Zacuto one that threads into the lens collar. I have a bit of Zacuto gear that I love and is of the highest quality, but the price on this was just unreasonable to me.

On my tripod, I angle the camera back 90* so it's aiming straight up and then attach my big lens and adjust the support. My goal is to have the lens in a 100% neutral position for when i snug the support up against it.

I really didn't want to buy rails, etc. just to support my 35-100. So I went the cheapo route and got a Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support for $70. You may laugh, but the lens and cam go on very quickly and come off just as easily. Plus it allows me to keep the tripod collar on the 35-100; all ready to go with my GH2.

I have a Manfrotto 394 quick release plate on the entire rig so I can get it on and off quickly. And also have a 394 on the AF100. The support under the AF100 rotates vertically, so it's just a matter of grabbing the AF100 top handle with one hand while supporting the lens with the other, snapping the cam onto the 394 base, rotating the lens down into the front cradle, and securing the velcro strap.

The foam you see under the tripod collar is the windscreen from an H4N sitting atop an adjustment knob on the baseplate . Don't think it's really needed for extra support, but hey, it fills an otherwise empty space and was going in the trash.

Even with this heightened center of gravity, I was able to perfectly counter balance this rig on my Libec RS-250. Which I bought using the money I was going to spend on a Zacuto baseplate. :)

Time will tell if this is truly practical, but it seems to be working just fine for now. The Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support is a sturdy hunk of metal that does the job.

And, btw, the Libec RS-250 system is really very nice for the AF100.

I sure don't want to put any dangerous torque on anything. But I really don't see where the torque would be coming from. Both the AF100 and the lens are supported - nothing is hanging off of anything. And the angle is only about 7º. I'm no engineer, but I can't see where any appreciable stress would be coming from. Everything is solid with no play or sway.

128usd!!
Brian is crazy. I payed 250usd for a complete rig from Gini. And the rig included a lens support that support perfectly heavy lenses. I suggest who needs one of these just ask Gini that special part and make an offer. I'm pretty sure he would accept something between 20 and 40 usd.

For the 35-100? Yes.

In the stills world, a lens that size holds the camera up, not the other way around

That's a good point, is the mount strong enough so you only have to support the large lens, then with the af100 hanging off the back? Or is the af100 too heavy to do that?
