GH4 Offloading Panasonic Micro P2 Memory Cards Question

I'm purchasing several of the 64GB microP2 UHS-II Memory Cards for my GH4 preorder and was wondering can I use the existing SDHC/SDXC memory card slots on my iMac and MacBook Pro to offload from the cards, or do I need to purchase the AJ-MPD1G Micro P2 Card Reader as well?

Regards,
Julian

Im not even sure if it works with the gh4. Microp2 needs an adapter to usb3. The microp2 slot accepts sdcards but not the other way around.

I also don't see any official information that these cards will work in non P2 cameras. They share the same form-factor as SD cards, but some reports say they are different internally.

That said, note that the GH4 will need UHS Speed Class 3 cards to record 4K in-camera. The microP2 cards I have seen do not specify their speed rating, most likely because they are only targeting P2 cameras which they are specifically made for.

According to reviewers its the otherway around. The class 3 cards are needed for the 200mbit 1080p but for example the Sandisk Extreme Pro works fine for the 4K 100mbit.

Im also interested in the P2-cards and wonder if they can be offloaded in my regular SD-slot. Im not sure which one but I think one of the reviewers so far used the P2s for the 200mbit mode.

Verified, yes, micro P2 cards can be offloaded in a regular SDHC slot. I just put one in the SD card slot on my laptop, and it worked. It'll be much faster to offload through a MicroP2 reader, but it can be read off of a regular SD reader.

Sandisk Extreme Pro can handle 200 mbit files as ProRes on the BMPCC is ProRes HQ which records at 220mbit just fine.

Yes. My reading, flawed as it may be, is that the extra pins on a SDHC USH-II card (aka Panasonic microP2 card) let the reader move more bits per clock cycle. So reading the cards in a normal SDHC card slot will just be slower than it could be (2x slower? 4x? I don't remember). But it should work just fine.
