Official pre-order / ship time thread

I think Canon was genuinely surprised by the reaction to the 5Dii, and thus caught flat-footed, supply wise. Hopefully they're more prepared this time around.
 
Has anyone mentioned B&H's holiday schedule? I wonder if it'll have an affect on when they ship the 7D?

Closed September 18th - 21st.
Closed September 27th - 29th.
Closed October 2nd - 12th.

I love B&H, but I think I'll keep my eye on Amazon & Adorama this time around.
 
Anyone get this email from Adorama this morning:

I wonder if this means anything, or if this is just another automated email you get when you are waiting long for a pre-order?
 
I believe it's automated. The receipt by retailer date people have been given from Adorama has consistently been Oct 9th, so there is no reason they would be apologizing now.
 
This is true, it's been two weeks since I've ordered so its got to be an automated response to all orders that wait this long....
 
Just checked with Adorama - I have no idea how many 7Ds they are expecting on their first order,
but they told me they have over 400 on preorder right now.

They couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me where I was on that list.
 
Just called Tigerdirect. They said the cameras were supposed to be in on the 9th, but now they should be in later this week.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure i"m in the second half of that 400+ list....
pretty sure I'll wind up cancelling the order with them.

If only Panasonic could actually get their products out there, I would have probably bought a GH1 by now.

The only reason I put a 7D on preorder is because the GH1 is MIA everywhere I've looked.
Figured I may as well get on the list if Pansonic can't get anymore out there in time.

We'll see.
 
I need mine by the middle of October so I can be patient until then, otherwise I will have to switch to GH1. I ordered on Sept 3.

Personally, I think TD is full of crap on this one. Every other company seems to be saying October so what makes them so different? I bet they keep saying next week until October when it actually comes out. I do hope I am wrong however; even though I dont have a preorder with them I hope some of you guys can get your hands on one soon.

I feel like someone must have misread "10-9-2009" to mean September 2009.
 
That's actually a good idea -- it may very well have been October 9th all along.

Luis, I ordered my second GH1 from Panasonic Direct, it only took like two weeks to get here... have you tried them?
 
I think TDs system auto generates delivery dates for shipments from suppliers and that is all that the CSRs can go by.

I have not - I may do that ....
Then again I might walk a block down the street and see if I can borrow Jack's.

Thing is, at this point if I have to wait two weeks I feel like I may as well wait and see what the 7D can do -
though, as nice as that cameras sounds, I'm pretty convinced the GH1 suits my needs a bit better.
Just can't help but feel like it's cutting so close to the release that I should probably hold off if I can to see the 7D in action.

I'll check out Panasonic Direct and keep it in mind.

Just FYI for anyone who is interested -
Just called Panasonic Direct and they're telling me it would probably be delivered the last week of September,
or possibly first week of October, if I ordered today.
 
I thought it was already stated that the release date of the Canon 7D would be the end of September? Anything sooner is just speculation. I think if we get the cameras by mid October then canon did a great job. They probably have about 1000 people who have the money and are willing to buy this camera so if they can fill all of those orders by October 15th then they are Amazing! I think they will probably sell upwards of 5,000 by the end of the year. They came to the market at a great time. That is a quick 8 million or so.

Does any one know where to get sales figures for this type of thing?
