Yeah, I thought about that. Slim odds, but I guess anything is possible. I could probably sell them on ebay for a profit (given the demand), if need be.

Because it is $200 for a lens I don't want or need? Just because it is a good price for the lens they ship with it doesn't mean it is a good idea to buy it.

According to my local retailer, during an initial release, body only models are usually shipped to them faster than kit packages.

Apparently this is what happened with the 5D when it was initially released.

Keep in mind that this could vary by region so it may not be the case in your neck of the woods.

Seeing that I placed my pre-order with Amazon (kit) 9/1/09 at 8AM, I would hope they ship pre-orders based on a priority by date. :beer:

All you really need is a local shop you can trust an have a good connection with the people who work their. That way I'll get mine the day it is being released

Just got a call from J&R confirming my pre-order information. It sounds like we're getting close. Though the best they could say was "7-10 days", which was a guess on their part.

Is anyone pro-ordering from Samy's? They are taking 10% deposits for $1,699 body only. They said they ordered a couple of hundred. They also said they only have "about 5" kit pre-orders but ab out 20 for the body only.

I just pre-ordered from Best Buy today, interestingly their estimate of "10/13-10/19" becomes far more specific when selecting faster shipping methods. They list 10/15 for Next-Day and 10/16 for Expedited, with free shipping arriving 10/19.

It seems safe to say that this shipment will go out on the 14th, with earlier pre-orders potentially shipping sooner. Not the soonest date, but certainly more concrete than Amazon's "within 2 month's of today's date" estimate.

Hopefully Pro Photo Supply here in Portland will get them in a week or two earlier.
