OFFICIAL A1 Custom Presets thread

Thanks guys for these WONDERFUL PRESETS!!!!!!! quick question. when selecting a preset is there a way to have the display show say VISION X instead of CP4? Do i really have to remember CP4 is visionx?

Thanks
Chris

Not on the A1. I noted my 5xCP titles on a paper stuck to the end of the battery a while ago .. and I now know 'em. :)

The A1s does display the selected CP name on its LCD.

Cheers.

Thats what I thought , but I wanted to make sure. Dude , thats a great idea about noting them on paper and sticking it on the battery.

Thanks,
Chris

What an awesome sticky! I just programmed panavision and a few other presets and I'm heading out the door to give them a try. Thank you to all that provided information and you'll be seeing me around.

Does anyone know where I can locate the preset vision7?

Does anyone have an updated .CPF library download link?

To answer my own question for anyone coming across this site, the answer is not really. My guess is because in my opinion a lot of them are useless. Dont waste hours trying to find the .CPF files, just grab the excel spread sheet with all of them on it and punch in the few that are actually useful. It cracks me up, these losers that sit around trying to come up with these presets when anything outside of the main ones can be done in post. Main ones being, TrueColor, Panalook, Panalook 2, VIVIDRGB, Reality, JCDV, NATURALO and MYNUTSONYOURFACE.

Heres the link to where the excel file is titled XH-CPF-20061204.xls:

Also, when you make your file on your SD card, make sure you name the file PRESET, not PRESETS. I made that dumb ass mistake, probably because im a dumb ass.

I've been using my A1s for a couple years now. Having trouble closing in on a good preset. Here are my problems and experiences:

I've used the TrueColor preset extensively. Mostly like it. Problem is that the blacks seem a little too black, shadow areas are too dark, and I find myself having to pump up my gain in post quite a bit to get the look that I really want.

I've also used the PFVision preset quite a bit. Great for low light. The problem is, the image consistently looks soft with this preset, and the my image is frequently way too orange when using indoor lighting.

What I'd really like is a preset that'll give me more detail in low light (like PFVision) while not making everything excessively orange and soft while still accentuating my blacks and my shadows. Nice thing about TrueColor is that it's been pretty easy to adjust things in post. Anyone have any recommendations for a preset that's a good compromise between these two, or any suggestions for altering these existing presets to fit my needs? Thanks in advance.

Have a document with all presets & Looking for TRUECOLOR preset

I've literally read this entire Thread & took note of each Preset that I found along with some notes on them in a word Doc. I would be happy to share this with anyone, but for some reason, I can't seem to upload it here? If any one is looking for that (I've seen several people asking), I'd be happy to email it to you so you don't have to spend days looking through here (although I can say the time was well spent, I learned a lot of valuable information) OR if someone could let me know how to post a word doc here, I'll put it up.

***I'm actually looking to see if anyone has the TRUECOLOR preset for my xha1s that I have read so many good things about... if it was listed in here, I must have looked over it.

Thanks

Im still an a1 USER, And thank god I am. Seeing is I had a computer crash, I have the footage backed up on tape. Now I can re edit the gig. Not that you can't back up files, but it seems safer and cheaper with tape still to me. ( call me old school). Any ways, I use to use the custom presets people made and posted. Now I make all my own. I have a great custom preset thats super flat, and can be coloer corrected beautifuly. It seems to retain the most info, anyways. Plus it's much better in low light.

Here's an interesting fact I recently learned from Barry about the gain settings, I use to try to shoot with -3 gain, thinking it would be the cleanest, In some ways it was. But it also hit the DR. Once I tried out -0 gain, I found I was able to capture a little more DR, in the shaows, and highlights. Give it a try if you have not.

I still really like the xha1, I bought mine new about 2 yrs ago, and it was the s- model, I recently just got another from a user here, not s model, but it's still pretty much the same cam, aside from a few small details. For the work I do the ccd, holds better than the cmos sensor. Im looking to replace my t2i, I just got rid of, with a seven d, or gh2, If I could find one. Im not all that fond of the gh2 quality( build wise). But its pic is to die for.

Do you mind sharing this preset that you have? Also, what is "DR"?

Time to bump an old thread, since i just bought 2 xha1's for streaming video using VMIX. I'm looking for some a7s cams in a later stage, but right now cashflow only allowed to pick up some cheap xha1's.

I'm looking for a preset that will do best in concert lighting and nightclub enviroments. Since the footage is captured realtime and streamed live on the internet, I can't colorcorrect it after the shoot. Colors need to be good straight from the camera and give a good result in low light.

Any suggestions?
