Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

Hey Mitch,

Is the CD Apple ProRess 422 File Transfer Tool not yet released? I haven't been able to find it on the website.

I think that's an implementation of Resolve or other post programs. These RAW files are actually stacks of individual stills, so they are addressed differently than a traditional video file with locked audio.

Thanks Mitch - I wonder about the Blackmagic RAW files. They are also just a bunch of .dng files plus one audio wav file in one folder. Resolve automatically merges audio and video.

Never tried this device. The files are just the files. I would suggest you run a test and see for yourself.

I've got a gizmo at home that supposedly does this (from Inateck) and was intending to run a test to see if it worked.

However, if you pull and SSD without ejecting it properly then you end up with an SSD that appears to be full of empty folders. Also, just complying the SSD (rather than the clips folder inside) seems to lead to you copying over an entire SSD's worth of data e.g. 256gb, irrespective of how much you shot (at least this is how it appears on a Mac.

I'm assuming that this means that using a dumb offline clone tool will be slower than using a programme like ShotPutPro - since it copes unnecessary data.

Also, In the case you forget to eject an SSD and then clone then format said SSD I'm not sure how easy it will be to dump the data back onto the SSD to eject the clips. Will you have to format the SSD in your computer and then copy everything across? Will the O7Q recognise it as a proper SSD in this case, without wanting to reformat it?

These are things worth testing before heading down that root methinks...

Guys, everyone using the RAW files in Resolve should migrate over to the new LUTs. They're available on our website here:

http://www.convergent-design.com/Products/Odyssey7Q/Sony.aspx

Sorry If I dont get it with this LUT.
Set up guide says:

FS700_Raw_Slog.cube
This Lut can be applied to view a simulated SLOG2 look.
based on the raw recording with the SLOG2 picture profile,
also note the image should closely match the internal media.

It produces a super flat very bright image. Why would I need this?
I tried to get it back to a saturated properly exposed image but I failed
Thanks for clarification.

The one review of the icy dock says the clone mode works much slower than the normal transfer speeds off the dock, and it's something they hoped could be fixed. If it's doing a "DD"? I think under the hood, old school basic block copy (which it probably needs to to be uncomplicated and not make any file structure assumptions, it is slow. On any cloning PC cd, it's the last option to use due to speed, but most reliable in getting the job done.

I recall earlier posting a far more sophisticated on set offload system with all the checks and bells, but yep, it sure was pricey.
im still going to give this thing a try cause of its price, but think all Colin's mentions above are spot on.

you could probably build a mini mac with tb2, lto6 tb drive, blackmagic multidock, and use a o7 as a screen into a small rack case. But then again could come up to the same price as a whatever the commercial system for on set ssd to raid offload was

Its a cheap solution that enables offloading for jobs when i do not have the funds for an assistant DIT to take care of offloading, or even setting up a delicate system. Even transportation limits since packing additional systems will require more luggage to be carried around. This system fits in the camerabag. A laptop with a reader and a few external hdd`s in cases do not. Not every budget can fit a DIT either, or a RED Epic, or PL lenses. After all thats why we compromise with cheaper solutions like FS700 4K and Canon L optics that breathe focus and move around when touched.

So true! Maybe something midway. I'm thinking a drobo mini tb (4x 2.5" bays), use 2 of the bays in r1 mirror with cheap 2tb drives. Get a couple of sets. 2tb mirrored at a time with fast tb offload via mbp I'd probably take anyway. Question is would it recognise swapped pairs in r1. Probably if it's leaving that bit up to osx. Could then also use it as regular little edit bay/offload to the nas at home

Anyone else having issues in Resolve with the 4K DNGs? Every time I try to load a shot, it says my GPU memory is full. I've got a 2012 MacBook Pro with 1GB VRAM. Not much, admittedly, but it doesn't do that with 2K RAW files (obviously I know those are much smaller...)

Working with 4K RAW DNG Files needs a lot of gpu-memory so 2GB is minimum, 4GB+ recommended. you can try to put down the project setting to 2K DCI and reduce the debayer size by half to safe memory.

Lemme ask you a question:

Who makes that camera and that software?

;-)

They are very open to expading the capabilities of Resolve and I would expect to see this functionality in the future, but don't start screaming at them for it. Remember how much you didn't pay for Resolve.
