Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

Not a lot of changes to Multi-Stream. We got rid of the annoying flashing yellow "DEMO" up top, as technically this is not a demo mode. The improvement to the waveform monitor is in all modes, not just Multi-Stream. We made the reference lines more detailed in full screen mode. The Histogram and False Color modes also got reference marks. And the other big improvement for Multi-Stream is that we got rid of the tearing on the monitor whenever you panned the camera. Or at least so I'm told -- haven't had a chance to test that one yet.

More changes are on their way in future updates. Detecting active inputs and only scrolling through just them is on the list.

Thanks Mitch.

I also saw a bug where the top part of the video image was wrapped around to the bottom. Probably something like the top 8% or so. I think this is a known bug. Is that fixed too? I got rid of it by cycling inputs.

I buy things when they can help me. So once everything works on the 7Q, I will buy one.
Buying it now when I can't use the features makes no sense to me. I'd rather hold onto my
money until I can actually put the tool to work making money. Why people buy something
before it works, and then complain...well we should all have learned this lesson (Red, BMD
and so on.)

Yes the delay for the new features is incredibly frustrating. BUT the monitoring features alone are really worth getting the monitor now in my opinion. Plus you will be hard pressed to find stock in the next month or so I would guess.

Thanks Mitch.

That's a genlock thing. I think it is addressed as well.

Fridays are normal a day of relief, but the last few weeks they've been full of anticipation and stress :) I know it's not CD's fault, since you guys are on Apple's seemingly endless timeline.

Any word Mitch? We are dying for info.

To those who chimed in on my frame dropping issue a few pages ago I did get in a cable that someone else recommended. True 75ohm. It seems OK at 2K 24p but 240 high speed or anything in 4K and you get the lines again.

What the issue is is that red and blue lines ranging 5-25 pixels wide (guess) will jump up from the bottom up to 2/3 of the way to the top at least twice a second. They are there when you are monitoring, recording, and in playback. In post the frames are just dropped altogether. So with the cable taken care of it comes to either firmware or I have to send it in again. But I don't want to lose it for that long again. I'm really hoping this update does it!

As a rental house people have been clamoring for the RAW options but not much I can do without the day rental options. And ProRes. And I think it is too unstable right now to send out.

The Odyssey 7Q is losing to the Samurai Blade! :crybaby:

I hear you and the monitoring features are surely useful....just for me the actual point
I can offer higher end services (and charge for them) comes with the better quality
recording ability. So it's a pure business decision to not buy until I can actually
use it to make money. And yes, I am sure I will be waiting for awhile to get one.
Im not the 'early adopter' type that needs to be first to have the new cool thing.

Mitch,

Do you know when your team will be able to supply B&H with battery plates and sad to usb3 cables?

I seem to recall someone else mentioning this as a problem. I believe that is to be addressed in the firmware update - but I could be wrong. Hopefully it will arrive soon and you can check.

It ain't looking good for CD's whole "days not weeks" statements, they only have a few hours until "Weeks late" is accurate. How about just giving us bug fixes and solving the hard drive issues guys? The 2K looks great when i don't have to fight white balance issues, and deal with never changing frame rates without offloading footage.

I have a gig in Arizona this coming week. After today, it'll be too late to bring my O7Q, so, I'll have to fall back on my trusty Pix240. It's really too bad C-D has been such a let down. I've been burned by them before...oh well, lesson learned. I really am not happy about this. I don't like to bash anyone trying to make things happen, but, this is a bit over the line AFAIK. Not exactly sure the real reasons for all this, but, it's hard to put much faith in a company that makes wild claims, then doesn't follow thru in a reasonable amount of time. We all have customers and commitments. When I can't count on promises, and I default on a commitment, those that depend on me are let down. It dominoes all the way down the line.

At this point, I would think it behooves C-D to compensate all the early adopters that invested in this product and were let down. Oh well, I can wish, huh? If they were selling on Kickstarter, I'd be a lot more forgiving. C-D made some very false and misleading statements in their initial product intro. Not sayin' they were intentional falsehoods, but, nonetheless, they were untrue.

+1 Kills me that this seems to be a trend now with electronics. Any other business... Hi, this is the new 2015 Toyhonda Civrolla, It doesn't have a reverse gear yet or brakes that work, but if you buy it now we're gonna fix that stuff later (we expect those improvements to be fixed by the end of next month...) ;-)

How long does it take to do some paperwork? Surely there's got to be more to this than that? I sure hope future updates don't take this long and have such HUGE delays. Not good at all.

I noticed on newsshooter sony have announced are doing hardware recording of dnxhd and prores on f5/f55
Interesting development ...

Hey Mitch,

Could you possibly shed some light on the situation? I'm pretty sure it's out of your hands, but many of us are just baffled by Apple's paper work process. Is it that insane? I know Apple has a history of being a very arrogant and hard to deal with company.

I do have a paid job out of state starting on Thursday. Would be nice to get it before then. Is that possible?

But yes, any info on what is going on would be greatly appreciated. If anything just to calm our curiosity. I would rather hear: "It's going to be a few weeks because of ……" than to be on pin-and-needles waiting. So then, at least I can plan accordingly.

Thanks again and I'm sure the stress you are going through is way worse than ours.

I would be the guys at Convergent have a bare-knuckls fight with Apple deadline of NAB. Because after that they will lose wind in their sails. Other recorders might be announced.
