Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

Just conjecture, but Dan Keaton's comments concerning the possibility in the following thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/convergent-design-odyssey/521379-7q-current-capabilties.html aren't quite the emphatic denials they used to be.
I don't think the message has changed any has it? Dan is saying that it will be added if permission from Sony is obtained. Mitch has said on numerous occasions that the functionality is there already, but it can't be enabled without Sony's permission...

Hi Guys, i am from Portugal and i have a friend that is comming to the States next month, to Los Angeles. I asked if he could buy me a O7Q, does he have to pay any adicional taxe to the 2295 USD ? Thanks

If he buys it in California, the sales tax is 10%. If he is in California, he can order the 7Q from out of state dealer (like New York or anywhere but California), and then you can save a bit on taxes.

Thanks Gene, i don't know if that is possible since he is going on business for a few days. I thought if presenting passport he could buy it duty free. Never the less is much more cheap than the 2500 Euros asked in Europe, e really can't understand this prices in Europe, i just payed this week 600 euros for a metabones speedbooster, and it was the best price i could find here.

The problem is, the 7Q can be pretty hard to find. Some places in LA might have it, but it's luck for sure. So if he cannot find it where he is, the only choice is to order it over the internet. You can do over-night mail so it gets to him fast.

Filipe,
do not forget customs and import V.A.T. duties, if your friend returns to the E.U. region, please.
Rushing the unit through the airport arrival area without stopping at the customs office is a criminal offense. You will not bring your friend and yourself in unnecessary trouble.

The different prices result mostly on import duties and European V.A.T., which are higher than U.S. Sales tax (but import V.A.T. may be refundable for enterprises).

Filipe,

Glad to see another Portuguese around. Even if your friend eventually finds a store with stock near him, it might not be worth the deal.
When arriving Portugal, you'll have to declare every item you import, you might get around this but that's illegal territory.
Customs will charge you 23% of VAT if you're in the mainland, plus around 4% depending on the item category (there is a table somewhere online that states the surcharge for each item category), then a few Euros for forms, etc.

Even if you are willing to pay these amounts and want to proceed with it, there is another drawback. If you ever need to claim warranty or for some reason send the 7Q back, you might need to send it to the US and go through customs.
One last thing, in Europe you get 2 years of warranty, in the US might be just one (anyone correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway, I'm pretty confident there will be no problem with the 7Q's as Convergent Designs knows how to build this things.

[PT] O meu deve chegar já segunda, a minha reserva foi feita em 2013 mas parece-me que a CD está a começar a enviar vários para a Europa e devem aparecer em stock em breve.

Guys,

Let's get this thread back on topic. Start a new thread if you want to discuss importing the 7Q.

Also, any update on the update? It would be nice to get an idea as to when we might be getting it....

We are confident the planned February Firmware Update will be released in the month of February. Two week window left! If it's ready tomorrow we will release it then (don't coin on that -- I'll be on an airplane & really pissed). If it happens on the 28th then that's when it happens. Or somewhere in between.

I've noticed there's never been a year specified so technically you have a 54 week window.

Of course i assume that's the UK version of pissed with suitable quantities of drink, and not the US being of just being a bit angry...

cheers
Paul

Mitch, Is there a forum somewhere where you are collecting feedback from users on the 7Q so as to troubleshoot technical issues and help improve the development? I know it's in an infant stage and want to give some feedback but don't want to pollute other forums. The monitor does not seem to want to record Panasonic SDI output whenever it's in a PN mode and monitor goes completely black when fed the signal from a c300 in 720 variable frame mode.

Any chance the 7Q will allow recording in an slog3 gamma curve for RAW-originated footage from the FS700?

No, but you can always reach out to me or to our support desk directly. We update or repair as we are notified of issues.

I'll need to look into that Panasonic issue. We test with MANY cameras at our office to make sure we are compliant, including Panasonic.

The Odyssey7Q does not currently support 720p signals.
