Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

Any plans to do the 4 channel stream recording all in ProRes? (not sure if it was discussed or not)

Somehow I got 2 requests today for that...

In the words of Ice Cube: "Today was a good day... I didn't have to use my AK."

At least that's the hope. No need for an AK that is :)

I wasn't sure if I missed that or not. Thank you!

I think I saw it quoted as Summer some time - that probably means end of the year!

And it's a paid option - quite expensive too although it's planned to be rentable.

For event filming, it would be great to have the option of say a 2 camera record - I think the multi stream option is priced way too high - I could see a lot of event videographers using it if it was more reasonably priced. Maybe that option was intended for a different market to that and one that could justify the price.

I know you do need that multistream license to record more than once channel at once. I'm just hoping that the ProRes support for it will be free. All said I'm about six grand into this recorder so far haha.

I don't think there will be any free multi-stream recording options. That's such a big feature that they can charge for it. Think about how many resources it can free up. Fewer drives, fewer recording devices, fewer syncing issues.

As I understand it - and from the record time chat on the CD website, multi-stream was always intended to be compressed (looks like ProRes 422 220Mbps). I'm guessing there won't be an uncompressed multi-stream (or you might need even bigger SSDs!). So, not exactly free but the paid multi stream option (unless I'm wrong).

With all due respect for Mitch, enough is enough.
I thought that what Blackmagic does is BS; Announcing a product that does not get released for another 9 months or more.
However, what Convergent Design does is worse: Actually selling a defective, incomplete product.
Mitch then weasels his way through by posting sob stories about ‘programmers hell’ and blaming it on Sony or Apple (or lawyers, - always a good one).

This is crazy. Something is wrong here.
The only consolation is, that I strongly believe an update of sorts will be out prior to NAB.
This in order to avoid that unhappy customers raid the
Convergent Design stand # C7113.

Not a defense of CD, but I've used and seen footage in person from a friend's BMC 4K and it's defective for sure. Really bad sensor issues. It's not useable in its current state, or at least I would not use it.

With that said, the firmware needs to come out today.

Heard similar stories regarding the BMC 4k. I have 2 BM Pocket's Not bad for the price. Only, nobody told us before that they eat batteries for breakfast.

Man, I just refreshed the page (before seeing Mitch's post) and almost had a heart attack.

When will the link be active?

:violent5:your on fire! :cheesy: unfortunately there isn't much choice except maybe not to buy the Odyssey.. Problem is there isn't any competition out there, so there is really nowhere to turn. So therefor people rather take a incomplete product with all the faults and delays.. Maybe in a year or two things might look different, who knows. Its far from an optimal situation as a consumer.
