Odyssey/Apollo firmware 2016.10

What we currently offer is switching between stereo pairs, meaning that you can choose to listen to audio channels 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, or 7&8.

You can submit feature requests to our tech support or, well, to me.
 
Forgive my ignorance, but why would anyone want to use Prores proxy? It's a huge loss in qaulity no?

I can see the benefit if the 7Q recorded both HQ and a proxy version simultaneously (for faster editing applications)

Am I missing something or will people actually use such a compressed codec as their primary and only recording? Or is prores proxy a lot better than I assume it is?

1) Ability to record four channels of audio. Two via SDI and two via the analogue input.

2) Onion skinning

3) Letterboxed or black shaded guides (option to change opacity of area around guides) for other aspect ratio recording.

4) Timelapse / Interval recording

We have many clients using the Odyssey and Apollo as secondary recorders. Apollo is used by many as a video assist system on multicamera shoots and there are a lot of people who really love Odyssey as a monitor and would like to record for reference but in small files. It's also a popular director's monitor. We try to fulfill as many needs as possible.
 
Isn't ProRes Proxy still better than the internal AVCHD of the FS700, for example? Which might make it a viable option for shooting longer running events etc...
 
I did have a rental house contact me last week about an art installation shoot that needed to shoot continuously in HD ProRes for four days. An Odyssey7Q+ loaded with two 1TB SSDs and shooting 1080p24 in Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) can record for 102 hours.

Anyone had any luck downloading the 2016.10.1641 patch update? The link on CD's webpage only gets me the .1639 from oct 15...

The naming scheme of the updates is just utterly stupid by the way...

There are two ways from here to get the current firmware.

One through the dropdown or two in the next seciton below where it says this:

Odyssey/Apollow Firmware (Full Package - Includes Patch Release)
2016.10.1641

I went the later route and found the download link there.

The naming convention is pretty common. The 1641 at the end is the BUILD number of the firmware.
 
C-D committed a cardinal sin! I d/led the update file called 2016.10.1641. After extracting the zip file, I double checked the acrobat file within and it says 2016.10.1641.
But whe I actually do the update, it says 2016.10.1639

Same thing here. All of the documentation is for .1641, but the update re-installs .1639 on the unit.

But we as customers have no need to know those. Just call it 8.0. If you need to patch it, call it 8.0.1. Now they have to ask people at support do you have the 2016.10 firmware? Yes. Do you have the patch version? I don't know. Go in to settings, does it say 2016.10.1639 or 2016.10.1641 there? Oh, it says 2016.10.1639.
Seems just convoluted to me. Plus the full firmware name don't fit on the main window.

I don't understand what you're saying. It's pretty poor, in fact, one can loose ISO certification for releasing a firmware update with the same version number.
 
Ug!! Someone goofed.

Don't use the complete packet. For now scroll down the page a little further and you'll see the firmware update only version. Use that -- it is the correct 2016.10.1641.

We changed our naming convention because this way it is easy to know when you last updated your firmware. You have no idea how often someone would say they had a problem and we would ask "when did you last update your firmware?" This way people can easily tell when it was last updated (it's a pretty rare thing to have two updates in a single month). It's not like we invented this naming convention. It's a pretty standard industry thing.
 
I used the firmware update option on both my 7Q and 7Q+ with no problems. It reads 2016.10.1641 firmware. Thank you Mitch for the quick update patch.
 
My problem with the previous 2016.06 firmware was with my Apollo not playing back properly with PC Premiere CC 2015 (latest version.) The audio sounded like slow motion and some of the 8 audio tracks were just noise. I see that the new firmware update says that is now fixed. My question is, will that only work with footage I ingest into the Apollo now that it has version 2016.10? Is thee a way for me to get workable audio from my last few months-worth of footage?

There is no such thing in the works at Convergent Design. Not to say there aren't things cooking, but I will not give away any secrets. Especially if they are someone else's secrets. That would just be rude and they wouldn't trust me again.

Hi Mitch,

Has anyone reported problems with audio sync when using the Titan HD Extract function? Any way to fix it?

Shot on FS700, both 2, 3 and 4 streams.

Transferred with ProResTransfer 2.5 on a Mac.
