Firmware 2016.10 will be available for download from the Convergent Design website later today. A new manual, documentation on EDLs and VariCam LT setup, as well as new software tools will also be available for download today. Convergent Design recommends that all users update to the latest firmware. After a firmware update, it is important to perform a Factory Reset in order to clear hidden settings mismatches.

Looking forward to the ProRes 422 Proxy Support amongst other things. Big thanks to all the devs at CD involved in this update.

Hi Mitch,

Can you explain how the FS RAW files are improved like it says above? I record FS RAW with my FS700 all the time. I was just curious. Are there changes with the colors, dynamic range, etc?

I also can't wait to use the
CD RAW / DPX Wave Timecode App, it is going to save me a ton of time manually syncing hundreds of FSRAW files each day with audio in Resolve! Thanks so much for making this program CD!

Rob

No audio timecode sync/improvements for the FS5 -> CinemaDNG RAW recording? Or is that what that Timecode app thing is going to do?

Woohoo! ARRIRAW 4:3!
Sorry, but I have to ask: Because Convergent Design said you would, or because you think there's still a market this late in the game?
Or is Arri finally coming to their senses about the Alexa Mini and not allowing you on it... ehem...?

ARRIRAW 4:3 was the reason I put down a deposit in June 2013 for an Odyssey7Q, back when Alexa XT/XRs were in short supply.
There's still plenty of 4:3 Classic Alexas out there, and Codex can't seem to figure out how to widen their appeal, so I'm sure I'll get some use for it! :)

We have improved the quality of the RAW deBayer. One of the improvements eliminates (or at least dramatically mitigates) the hard yellow fringing edge on overexposure that was pointed out on this forum. Overall color response is improved.

You can thank one Mr. Nick Shaw for the WAVE file timecode App. He whipped it up when our engineers didn't have time to.

I'm gonna go with the first two and leave it at that!

Mitch. Did Slog3 get added into the Sony RAW like you were expecting? IS that the listed LUT changes?
FS5 RAW -> S-Log3 not in there. There was some fundamental color science work which was done to improve our outputs, and that in part resulted in improved LUTs. But this was done for all the FS RAW cameras and took some time, so the FS5 S-Log3 didn't get done in time.

K, Improved color and removing the 4K Prores blocking is good enough for now.

Mitch are the camera LUTs that are posted on the website embedded in the firmware update or are they in addition to?

One specfic question at this point about the LUTS in the Odyssey/Apollo. Is the Slog 1 LUT based on the color space and gamma of the F35 or the F3?

I might as well ask you this tangential question, do you know if the Slog 1 DITs in the ACES software are based on the F35 and/or F3?
