Odyssey/Apollo firmware 2016.10

Mitch, does this new firmware fixes the issue you stated in the Service bulletin from August 5 2016:

"When shooting FSRAW -> Apple ProRes in either 4K50/60p or 2K100-240p, image artifacts can occur. Such artifacts generally only happen in low contrast images."

I've had some of those huge image artifacts, so just want to make sure it is fixed before I go on with 2016.10.
Thanks

- FIXED Apple ProRes recording artifacts 2016.06

I'm interpreting that as it does indeed!

I hope they are holding it hostage to add extra features like free run timecode and recording LUTs...

Mitch are the camera LUTs that are posted on the website embedded in the firmware update or are they in addition to?

One specfic question at this point about the LUTS in the Odyssey/Apollo. Is the Slog 1 LUT based on the color space and gamma of the F35 or the F3?

I might as well ask you this tangential question, do you know if the Slog 1 DITs in the ACES software are based on the F35 and/or F3?
We have added a number of embedded preset LUTs to the Odyssey LUT Routing System in the latest firmware. I think that we still offer a number of additional LUTs on the website that you can choose to load into the Odyssey if you wish. I think we're up to something like 25 presets and another 25 or so additional LUTs. There's a lot more nice free LUTs available out there, like Allister Chapman's.

The S-Log1 LUT is based on the Sony standard, as issued from the company's specs and white papers. We did not adjust it in any way. I believe this was originally created for the F35, but Nick Shaw knows more about this than I so take his word for it. It matches what is the industry standard S-Log1 LUT as represented in various post programs. I can't answer specifically what is in ACES (you could ask them), but I imagine they also adhere to the standard.

Yes, this is absolutely addressed.

Sorry for the delays everyone. The new firmware is indeed up.

As it has been for more than a year, you must log in to be able to download the firmware.

The update takes a different amount of time depending on which model unit you have (Odyssey7/7Q/7Q+/Apollo) as well as what firmware you are moving over from. Plan for up to an hour for the update, so you should really do this using AC power.

WHILE UPDATING, IF THE SCREEN GOES BLACK OR WHITE DO NOT PULL POWER!!!

This cannot be stressed enough. Instead try plugging in a video source into the SDI A Input and the screen may return to normal. If not, just leave it alone and keep updating for at least an hour. After that if the screen does not return to a message then go ahead and recycle power.

IF YOU PULL THE POWER PREMATURELY THEN YOU WILL LIKELY NEED TO SHIP THE DEVICE BACK TO CONVERGENT DESIGN.

Hey Mitch, couple quick ?

1. What will be the rental price for Titan?

2. I don't see any different options in my audio output screen. Do the channel selections only become visible when 8 channel audio is detected?

3. The Test Pattern (all) look weird, but only in ProRes mode. I changed to RAW...and they looked perfect so I thought it was a temporary issue, but when I went back into ProRes...back to this.

These are the recording options I tested.

FS 4K RAW - UHD ProRes (all flavors) - Purple Hue
FS 4K RAW - HD ProRes - Purple Hue
FS 4K RAW - RAW - No Hue
Canon RAW - ProRes - Purple Hue
Canon RAW - RAW - No Hue
Panasonic RAW - 4K/UHD Prores - Purple Hue
VARICAM RAW - .DNG - No Bar at all. Black screen.

So it looks like mostly a ProRes issue. You know what might help with that?

24-hour rental price for Titan HD Extract is $149.

8-channel audio is only available in SDI video input signals, not RAW data signals. The audio menu changes appropriately depending on the input format. I note from your list of tested formats that they are all from RAW sources, no video input.

I will point out the Jimi Hendrix color bars to our techs, although I encourage you and everyone else who finds any issue to file a support ticket so that we can track all problems.

I do have to wonder about the "Panasonic RAW - 4K/UHD ProRes" mode you list, as we don't have that mode in the unit. Could you be referring to the Panasonic 4K/UHD 4:2:2 -> 4K/UHD ProRes (.MOV) mode? That's a video input mode.

As previously noted, DNx is not a part of this release but is in active development and will be available soon.

I was hoping the audio channel selection would work for any audio input. Basically, I was looking for the ability to select the channel to monitor with headphones. Similar to that which is available on the FS700 natively. Selecting Left, Right or Both. It's super useful and I'd really like to be able to do that on the 7Q, because I want to monitor at the recording step.

Is there a feature request area on CD website? I couldn't find one.
