Nov 1 Status Check

i've got a cool idea, but now i have to get it on paper which is really tough for me.
I'm so stoked on this DVX fest because it gives me my whole winter break from school to do it!

ive written a couple pages of the script... but im not even sure if its science fiction. i might just throw in an alien of some sort.

Finished the script.
Finished casting.
Finished wardrobe selection.
Secured locations.
Finished pre-viz.
Now, I have to shoot my pick-ups in L.A., and then go to St. Louis for principal photography. I then get to leave my tapes with the editor, and come back to sunny L.A.

Yeah, that's crazy. Anywho. I am finished with the script, finally!! It went through a complete rewrite. Now, we're finally done. We've got the actors lined up, and locations are all locked, but one. I need to find a makeup artist, and I need to start thinking about costumes, but everything else is a go! One more month till we shoot!

November 23 Update:

The script is done (had to dumb it down quite a bit for anyone but my dog to understand it).

We shot our first exterior night scene last night and it looks great (aside from almost losing the best shots because my DP showed up without any tape - can you imagine?)

Now re-working the script a little to fit the 6 minute max. Cut cut cut.

Hope to shoot the final exterior and interior December 7 to 10 (or so) to allow lots of time for editing and post.

On track. On budget.

Life is good.

Right now I'm trying to decide between the two scripts (the third got canned for being impossibly too long - 10 mins). Hopefully shooting will begin in mid December, maybe inching into the christmas holiday, giving me the month of January for editing and post-work. Ya, I'm gonna do some CG work, contrary to my original intention. But, both scripts demand minor "atmospheric modifications". I refused to call them special effects. You can't make me call them special effects. They're "digitally created cinematic assistants".

You guys South of me sure got it easy on this short ..The weather has been very unpredictable the last few days .from 60s to 30s . had some snow on Friday last and now they're calling for a blizzard tomorrow ( Thurs) . We are planning to finnish shooting 2 weekends from now.. GEEz you can't plan anything ..
I have only 2 weekends( my weekends off ) to do this in before Christmas and that's it for me so I am praying for consistent weather ,..snow or nothing!!!! no in between crap.
Hows our Russian member doing ? Last I heard it was snowing pretty good there .

....you're doing pick-ups BEFORE principal?

You could say that. May seem backwards but workflow wise works better to get these secondary (but important) shots first, then bringing it all to St. Lou.

Crazy, perhaps... but must be done. :)

I should be finishing up my script this holiday weekend and then I'll find a couple of actors. I probably won't shoot until the beginning of January and the edit editing may last until the night before the due date. Luckily I've come up with short story with very little in the way of special effects, so the shoot should be pretty quick.

Augh, we're cutting it closer than I wanted. After firing the writer we were working with, I had to start over with a new idea from scratch. Just finished another rewrite today for our 6 minute version, then once that's approved, I'll flesh it out further for a 10-15 minute version. We'll edit that to have something for the library/other festivals (hopefully), then cut that down even more based on our 6 minute script for DVXuser.

The hardest thing about all this is trying to work around the holidays, especially since we won't be able to start shooting until into December.

The hardest thing about all this is trying to work around the holidays,

No kidding! I've got it all worked out schedule-wise, but I have zero wiggle room, so here's to hoping that nothing goes wrong.

Still, that's what makes these fests exciting.

Doh!

Doh!

Curses! Apparently, Time > Money.

I'm slammed at work, and may not be able to pull together a short for this fest, much as I'd like to. SciFi is one of my favorite genres!

But I'm working for a startup and we've got no project slipage through March 24th.

We'll see; I might be able to throw something together starting Jan 1, but at this point I just don't see it happening. Drat!

thought of a way better idea, plus it'll work better with people/places i have available. so while i'm away for thanksgiving til sunday i'm gonna try to finish a script so i can line stuff up when i get back.

i'm at the coast, sapping wifi from a lodge across the street from the cabin we're at, lol

FINALLY!! Finished final draft of script!

FINALLY!! Finished final draft of script!

Wow, what a grueling process this has been. After tons of consultations, feedback, and too many drafts/rewrites to keep track, we've finally got our script to shoot.

Let me know what you all think. If I get a high enough bidder, I may just sell the rights to it, and come up with a different idea for the fest!

I know you'll all be insanely jealous of the character arcs, dialogue, and action we're able to squeeze in LESS than 6 minutes.
